I was about to post this is the previous GDT to Tmurfin.

I have seen him have defensive breakdowns or missed coverage for sure, but again he's 22. I've seen more times than not, where he looks very aware of what is going on in the defensive zone, just watch him, his head is constantly on a swivel and positionally he is quite sound. He is also fairly decent at intercepting passes or breaking up a play because he is positionally sound. My one criticism of him is I wish he was a more physically imposing player to face. However, I worry he has a bad back to begin with so this may be a blessing.

Definitely, but I also wonder how often this is due to a defenseman pinching and thus coverage gets changed. Last night he covered pinching D pretty well.

I don't think he's ever going to be overly physical, but he's learning to use his size to protect the puck, which is good. I'd like to see him get a little nastier/trickier with his stick defensively, personally.

But, that being said, even if he's never a Backlund level defensive player, I'd be 100% fine with a faceoff specialist, who has good hands in tight, and scores 30 goals a season :D.

Time to get ours, hope Elliott is lights out, this could be a real turning point in our early season.

Go Flames!!

The real question is whether the Flames can into regulation wins

Elliott should get the start here, he's easily earned it. And hey, last time I checked competition between goalies usually isn't a bad thing.

If the Flames can get a win here tonight, a lot of the **** **** we saw earlier in the season will be undone.

Grossmann, Wideman and Engelland in the lineup tonight. We're never going to exit our own zone.

Kind of question that myself. It's not like Jyrki has been bad, he's physical and skates well... Probably our most overall consistent guy all year. Are they trying to have him sit a few games here and there to protect him from the expansion and limit his salary case for next year?

Grossmann is in for the physicality. If he is deployed in a limited role, it could be a shrewd way to battle a St. Louis team that dominated us physically last time around.

The trick will be managing his ice time so he isn't caught out against St. Louis better lines.

I'd rather have Kulak in over Wideman, but Wideman had a decent game last night. Hard to bench him.

I thought this was about Hamilton haha

also, Grossmann in is going to be rightfully panned by everyone. let's hope it works.

the flames' best d lineup is

gio-brodie
kevin/kulak-hamilton
kevin/kulak-wideman

and it's not even really close imo. it's a little soft but Engelland can barely catch up to a guy to hit them anyway

If anyone should have sat from last nights game it's Engelland. Guy has really sucked this season.

Expecting a close one tonight, glad to see Moose get a crack at the fools who thought Jake Allen was a #1 goalie.

 Never change CFHF. Engelland is still the devil on these parts, despite being one of our bright spots this season

Yep. There's just something about the way "Engelland sucks" rolls off the tongue.

I'm okay with Jokipakka coming out, as he does occasionally get beat on crease battles, but this does mean that half of our d-men are not very mobile. The Blues are likely one of the few teams that that might not be terrible against, as they aren't a team built on speed.
