at times last year he was the second best D man Dallas had, Florida got a good player......going to miss him

LMFAO

Do people watch games anymore or just look at score sheets? Dallas couldn't protect a lead to save their life last season. A four goal lead for Dallas meant the other team had a chance to come back.

I'd say we were able to protect a lead. About 50 times we managed that's last year

shows how whacked out the contracts are in the nhl when a deal this bad is one of the top 5 best ones done over the past 2 days.

heaven help the nhl the day the players get sick and tired of losing 15% of their paychecks with this artificial escrow clause paying the true cap number.

when you realize that the true nhl revenues are falling over 10 million short of the fake projections every year and then imagine a world where the cap falls 10 million to be more truthfully projected... a contract like this will be an absolute nightmare.

honestly... like tv and singing and even painting or writing, I don't really care how much a 'star' can convince people to pay them for entertainment. if someone is a star and they can convince people to buy tickets... all the more power to them. stars in the nhl could be paid 100 million dollars a year and I wouldn't care if the economics supported it.

its when you start paying 4/5 depth dmen 4.5 million because there are no other 4/5 depth dmen available that shows the apocalypse is approaching. I mean theres a lot of worst contracts handed out this year so my rant really could be placed in several different threads here. but it applies here too and here is where I reach my breaking point.

and all this... 'someone has to get paid' garbage makes me sick too.

if pro sports was paying their own bills than fine... okay... but when pro sports continues to come to us tax payers complaining they need a new arena to stay competitive... or a casino licence... a lottery... tax breaks... etc etc etc... then THEY ARENT PAYING THESE SALARIES THEMSELVES!!! salaries like this are being taken directly from the tax payer pockets.

I don't mind some support for the arts and entertainment... but there is no way you can tell me that a hockey player NEEDS 4.5 mill to ply his trade. If the NHL was NOT taking tax payer dollars to prop up its artificial economic accounting system than I wouldn't care less how much money they wanted to spit with the players. BUT THEY ARE taking tax payer dollars so I do have a right to freak when these deals get more and more ridiculous every day.

odds on demers being a buyout before his deal is complete... I peg it at 75%

I'm willing to have someone dig up this post and throw it in my face if I'm wrong but I say that because I'm right more than 75% of the time when I predict buyout targets.

theres been a few of them handed out for sure the last couple days

It's never the player's fault for asking for a lot of money. Professional hockey is their job and there is a negotiated structure in place that pays players a certain amount of money for their services. Players can ask for whatever they want, and teams can offer whatever amount they want. Of the two parties, the player lacks the leverage, since withholding his services does harm just to him, except in very rare circumstances. Just as you can ask your boss for any salary you think is appropriate, so should a hockey player have that same right. Your anger, and it does seem like an anger, is that hockey players, who play a game and are entertainment, make so much more than you in your profession. So do a lot of spurious industries, to be fair. Hockey players make more than teachers, but so stock brokers, whose job is to exploit the financial system for profit, to make money.

As for the rest of this screed, don't watch the NHL. Don't vote for politicians who would spend your tax money to support private interests (sports is the most recognizable, but cities, counties and states regularly give incentives of all types to businesses). Go watch a high school or pee-wee or midget league if you want to watch hockey.

Dallas finished second overall with the worst goaltending in the league :)

It wasn't good but is wasn't Hiller bad .

With Demers already signed Florida really shouldn't sign Russel . They sucked as a pairing and if there's even a chance they play together thats a bad idea.

They aren't interested in Russell. Already been debunked by reporters with actual sources

A #5? lol gimme a break.

Your teams D must be loaded.

Has nothing to do with 'how loaded' my team is at D, but how I assess Demers as a defenseman from what I've seen. If you're counting on him to log big minutes on the 2nd pairing, I think your team isn't going to be much of a contender. That's my opinion.
