Someone in the Petan thread was wondering if Lowry is auditioning for his spot on the Perreault-Frolik line this game (personally prefer the idea of Petan over Lowry), but could Josh be auditioning for a spot in the top 6 today? Assuming the D looks like this at the beginning of the season:

Enstrom - Trouba/Bogo
Stuart - Trouba/Bogo
Morrissey - Clitsome

You might wonder if they're looking to see if he can play with Clitty. Then, as he earns it throughout the season, take over for Stuart.

I think that is exactly what is happening and I agree on your Petan over Lowry comment as well.
