The "union" of FIFA players sent a letter previously asking for it. They cited FIFA's statement that the women's game is the biggest opportunity for growth that exists in sports.
FIFA calling it their own ambition and objective is hilarious, because they've always set the value of the prize money. The TV rights are totally bundled. You get ALL the FIFA tournaments of the cycle for one price... and they decided how much to give men and women.
That being said, the days of US women's dominance are numbered. The US development system for SOCCER has never existed until the US Development Academy/MLS Next (for men, which is only just now producing).
But the rest of the world didn't have one in women's soccer, either. So just picking our best players from a country with Title IX and HS and college opportunities allowed us to dominate based on pure population (look at the other contenders from the 1990s-2015: China, Brazil, Japan)
