People love to bash Hall but come on it's never his job to be the muscle for himself and his smaller team mates. Obviously the Oilers have a better mentality now, they got lots of beef on the team that can handle themselves and play a regular shift without hurting the team. That's what makes the difference. It's easier for a guy like McDavid to not take **** when he knows he's got guys like Lucic, Maroon or Kassian or even Nurse hanging around to back him up. Before Chia got to Edmonton the teams never had that luxury. A goon sitting on the bench doesn't make anyone tougher but guys who can both play and handle the rough stuff sure do.

Never was a fan of Ference and thought giving him a C was a mistake by the Oilers. Personally I don't put much stock in his opinion he often comes off as bitter and spiteful.

Tonight against the Flyers was a great example of what Fetence was talking about. It's amazing the difference some roster turn over makes.

Brandon Manning got speared by Lucic and run from behind by Draisaitl before he finally gave in and fought Maroon, which for all intents and purposes ended the extracurricular shenanigans.

That wouldn't have happened a couple of years ago.

Confused about people mentioning Hall.

Guy missed serious time fighting he's not there to fight for God's sake he's on the ice to to put up points.

Guys like Iginla who can score and fight well are unicorns.

Nobody in Edmonton wanted Hall to fight. Most of you guys are missing the point many Oilers fans were trying to make in this thread. Ference correctly pointed out that many Oilers refused to get involved in scrums and would either just watch teammates get pushed around after whistles or turn and quickly skate away. These skirmishes don't have to be settled with fights. Most can be handled just by pushing opponents back when it happens. Stand up for yourself and your teammates. Be willing to show you won't be pushed around. Hall wasn't the only guy guilty of this. Pretty much the entire team was and it was a huge problem. Hall is brought up here, not only because he was one of those guys, but because he actually told the media he had no interest in involving himself in these things.
