Is this from "The Sacrifice"?
Close. This is from the 1985 Russian film Come and See, which follows a young boy through the Nazi occupation of Belarus.
War movies often have a problem where despite the horrors portrayed, the ultimate message can often end up being pro-war. The noble sacrifice. Honour. Excitement. The just cause, etc etc. This movie does not have such a problem. It's absolutely gut wrenching and unforgiving. Live ammunition was used quite a bit during the filming so that thousand yard stare on the boy's face is really not an act. It's actually been recently remastered so I'm looking forward to the eventual home release.
But until then you can watch the entire non-remastered version with youtube ID "NJYOg4ORc1w"
