Keep an eye on Bill Peters as things come to a head in Carolina. There’s a ton of pressure on Ron Francis to get this team over the hump, and the TDL doesn’t provide opportunities like it used to.

Given intense dissatisfaction with the way things are going, high expectations from a new owneR, the fact that they’re somehow still in striking distance of a WC spot, and the fact that Peters is now well beyond the average coach’s tenure, there’s a strong chance Francis will see a coaching change as the best tool left in his toolbox.

Torts only got a season extension, I could definitely see him being replaced if things don't turn around in Columbus. If the jackets miss the playoffs he's gone IMO

They were having this very discussion on TSN12oo this morning and Pierre McGuire made a good point.

Often, you aren't just firing the head coach, but the assistants as well (as the head coach likes to bring in their guys). With the increasing coaching salaries (ex. Julien at $5M, Babs at $8M, Joel Q at $6+M....) plus the assisants, AND having to pay the fired guys, it's a MASSIVE investment.

They used Tippet as an example. If you fire your coach, and hire Dave Tippet, he's what? $4-5M? Add in the ever increasing salaries for assistant coaches and the guys you turfed and it's probably something like $8-10M a year. HUGE investment for many teams.

Just a few years ago the highest coaches were around $2M. Nowhere NEAR that now.
I guess it boils down to which is worth more: a shot at the playoffs or waiting for next season and saving a bit.

I think Coach Q and Tocchet are the two most likely candidates.

Q may be a mutual agreement. He is signed through 2019-20. I am sure Hawks fans felt that last year's 1st round exit was unexpected and that this year was his chance to bounce back. But with the results this year getting much worse, it is going to take a leap of faith that he can improve next year.

Tocchet, while I don't get much exposure to the Arizona market, the little I have seen suggests to me Tocchet just isn't suited for NHL head coaching, at least at this time. Great Assistant but from some of the interviews I saw the lack of adjustments early in the season just don't have me convinced.

Glen Gulutzan is done at the end of the year. Theres no way this monkey is back next year.

And if he is back next year I'm pretty much done watching the flames. I cant go another season watching 82 games with this Muppet behind the bench.

If someone like coach Q would get fired, say within 2 weeks, then dominos will fall. Team like Oilers should be all over Q in that case, and then someone goes after Todd etc etc.
No one is going after Mcleloltopkek. He has proven what a horrible coach he is and doesn't deserve another gig. The Sharks probably should have a couple of cups if it wasn't for him.
