With respect to personal stats, the salary cap is completely irrelevant. We may never see another dynasty in part due to it (but lets remember, we went 15 years without one when there was no cap from 1991-2005), but the impact on individuals is negligible.

This is because, contrary to commonly held belief, linemates have very little effect on the production of the truly elite players. Gretzky may not have been getting 200 points without Kurri, but he'd have still been getting around 180 with average linemates. Notice how Ovechkin's production has remained steady throughout his career, even though he now has talented players like Backstrom and Semin to play with, whereas he was playing with scrubs his first year or two. The best of the best will put up points regardless of who they are playing with.

NO!!!!!!!!!! alright they were amazing players and not doubt one of the greatest to lace up, but big part to do is salary cap, if no salary cap today, it'd be crosby malkin, ovi, kopitar, iginala, and brodeur, all on one team kinda like edmonton in 80's (gretzky mersseir, kurri, furh, and few oother greats) with s. cap u'll never have dynasty teeams or padded stats like that again

I have to agree with Kyle here. Dynasty teams didn't really contribute to Gretzky or Lemieux's stats. Gretzky broke the all time record for assists in his second season in the league, as well as the all time record for points in a single season. Kurri wasn't even playing yet, and the Oilers barely even made the playoffs (the didn't secure a spot until the final day of the season). This was certainly well before their dynasty years. The next year, Gretzky broke his own record for points, assists, and scored 50 in 39, and 92 on the season... his 212 points were over double his closest teammate. Sure, as the Oilers became a dynasty he would go on to break even some of these records, but he was shattering them all on a team that could barely secure a playoff spot in an era when only 5 of 21 teams didn't make the playoffs.

Look at Lemieux - 199 points with scrub linemates. Then he got Jagr, but still never reached that many points again. Obviously in his case there were injury issues as well, but the point is that when put with the 2nd best player in the league, not to mention a bunch of other HHOF cast members, his production remained fairly constant.
