Disappointing career for the promise he had. Won't make HOF yet I thought he would become an all-time great.

Ugh, no.

He has as many Cups as Crosby and more than Ovechkin. Maybe his production didn't last as long as it should have but he won the ultimate goal so it's far from disappointing.

When the majority of Lightning fans call him the best player in the teams history maybe you should listen to them. St. Louis was the better point producer but not player, he didn't have to carry the burden of keeping the franchise relevant his entire career there.

Sad to see him retire, but from the quotes he gave regarding his time in LA, it sounds like he went out on a good note. He was burdened with a lot coming out of the draft and being thrust into the NHL at a young age with a lot of high expectations for a young Tampa franchise.

Show where he said he was going to retire while still in Philly. It came out after he came to LA that he was going to do so. And sounded like he told DL that when they were talking before the deal was made as was given permission to do so.
So why would the Kings be on the hook or lose anything over him staying? They weren't the ones that made the choice for him to retire and have no way of forcing him to do so.
I'm thinking he retiring was just as much a shock to Hextall as everyone else.
Agreeing to retire was THE condition LA required of Vinny as part of the deal to get him out of Philly. It was no surprise to Hexy. Lombardi said he could take him for half price for this year but has no cap space next year. Vinny agreed. He could legally come back to LA but that would mean no Lucic for sure and if you think he didn't like the way he was treated in Philly.....
