The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defensemen Cory Sarich and Raphael Diaz to a one year contract worth $1,500,000.

"With four young defensemen in our roster for next season, with three of them being rookies, we were in need of some veteran help. Sarich and Diaz are both right-handed and we feel that they are good fit on our team. Sarich brings leadership and a solid defensive game while we believe that Diaz can bounce back and we like the fact that he can play in the top 4 when needed, like he did with Montreal at the beginning of last year. The Wings also signed former 2-time 50 goal scorer Dany Heatley to a PTO with an invite to training camp. Heatley has Cheechoo'ed off the map it seems, but in Detroit someone is ALWAYS injured at any given point, so he'll get to compete for a spot with a good camp. I mean heck, CLEARY had a spot on this team last year!

While his age is starting to catch up to him and he is no longer able to handle top pairing minutes, we feel that he will be a quality guy to have on our bottom pairing. He can still dish the puck well and will be an asset to our transition game and special teams. He can easily slot into the top 4 in case of injury.
