Kane's back at the top ;)

Player Team GP G A PTS PIM
1 Evander Kane Vancouver Giants 20 14 22 36 41
2 Brett Sonne Calgary Hitmen 25 11 23 34 23
3 Jamie Benn Kelowna Rockets 19 19 14 33

Benn has a game tonight so this has the potential to change ('specially if he keeps playing like the last two weeks)

Sonne plays moose jaw (but has FIVE/SIX games on benn and Kane

*Highlights*

WHL prospect video: (featuring bland generic lines (Looks like his agent's been practicing with him ;) and a few quotes from his coach and GM)

http://whl.ca/video/index.php?team_id=&game_id=&video_id=252&page=1

* Has a point in EVERY game his team's played this year (the WHL record is 51 btw :p: too far away! )

* Highest Pim total amongst the top 30 scorers

There's no way he and schenn don't get a serious crack at team canada. Both are physically able to handle it (hell I daresay they're rougher than alot of the competition)

Still haven't settled on who's style he reminds me most of. He's a fan of both paul kariya and jarome iginla (as can be seen in the shooting and hitting tendencies) A scout brought up darcy tucker but he's no where near tucker's peskiness/Intimidation quotient (in juniors)

still pondering...

Skating's definately improved leaps from last year (and by leaps from his bantam club)

Where is he likely to settle on draft day? He's been on the ascent with ISS of late, hasn't he?

Toronto.
How's his play away from the puck? And while his PIM's are high, is it because he's physical or a bunch of hooking penalties?

I dunno about the anderson reference (though anyone'd be lucky to have half his career). From the early-oiler games I've watched kane's physical upside is worlds away from anderson. He loves to aggravate (although he's actually "calmed" down this year. Doesn't back down (even when he needs to...0-3 in fights so far). His passing was what caught everyones attention in year one (and even the year before (at 15). Once vancouver needed scoring he stepped up the shooting (ala kariya's transition from college playmaker to pro-shooter)

The "anderson" factor is definately recent (thanks to the growth spurt). He attacks the net better than last year and seems to have earned some respect there. Evander "kinda" knows who glenn anderson is (thanks to perry, his dad. But, like so many black kids in north america (sorry brandiHO).. he worships iginla and patterns his game after him (which I've joked will get his neck broken... unless he gains about 20-25 more pounds. ;)

Love the "big daddy kane" reference btw. If he had any clue about good hip hop I might've brought that up but I'm sure it'll go right over his head:laugh:

Update: looks like he added another point (goal) tonight... 37pts in 20games. Methinks Gil Brule's(the player vancouver so badly needs him to replace) second year total (39goals 87pts in in 70 games) will be beaten.

I doubt he'll go anywhere near jeremy jackson's (another player we've talked about) 102 second year point total. Especially if things work out at the ADT series and then world juniors.

His defensive play away from the puck is decent (definately better than pierro zabotel's ;) ) and is predicated more on effort than any steve yzerman type defensive prowess. Offensively his hockey IQ is on par with CPZ and I think still growing. One of the problems last season was that his linemates were often not ready for his passes. He's got hockey sense and a good defensive grinding game (always makes a bee-line for the puck but never seems to take it- prefers to wipe his guy out instead ;)

* What's up with the title change? Censorship! Censorship I say!

Top 10 pick, should garner an invite at least to the Team Canada camp, although they might prefer Schenn to make the team out of the two, but we'll see. So long as his below average size doesnt effect him he should be alright, bulk up though kid!

He's 6'1 185 lbs... I wouldn't really call that below average size..

and that's just BEFORE breakfast!

He meant 185 althought damn would he make a great goalie at that weight!

Phil's as always stuck in the past. Last year hockeydb had him supposedly at 5ft 1... then the WHL page stayed stuck on his 15yr old stats (5ft 9, 160).

Zabotel is above 200lbs and kane doesn't look out of place next to him.

Kane has certainly continued to develop nicely. I hope he does well.

And I've noticed you've stopped crapping all over Landon Ferraro whenever you pump up Evander's tires. That's good to see.

Yes, I know Kane has more points. But my point is that while you where hyping Kane, you took every opportunity to bash Ferraro (as did others) for his rookie season with a bad team last year.

Some of that had to do with you feeling that Ferraro and Howse got more hype than Kane. Yet, when they did, the people who hyped them didn't bash Kane -- at least I don't remember them doing it.

I think Ferraro is proving some of his doubters wrong this year. He has already beaten his goal and point totals from last season in half as many games.

http://whl.ca/stats/player.php?id=24826

It just goes to show that you development curves aren't always the same and you can't dismiss players based on one season, especially their 16-year-old rookie seasons in major junior.

Also, the most important development years for for players occurs between 17-22. That's when they make themselves an NHL player -- or not. So, there's still lots of development time ahead even for players in their draft year. That's what makes the job of an NHL scout so difficult.

Did you even read what I said?
I said that page is probably updated MORE than the WHL Evander Kane page, which is the one that says 5'11 from when he first started out with Vancouver.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=28181 Here too has Kane listed at 6'1.

He'll be 6ft 2 and over before getting into the nhl. And trust me he's waay to excited about being over 6ft tall to be fudging that fact ;)

Speaking of numbers did you see this?

Western Hockey League Preliminary Rankings - Fall 2008
MORE RANKINGS: OHL | QMJHL | NCAA | EURO

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE - SKATERS

3 Brayden Schenn Brandon 22-Aug-91 6-foot 193 C L
4 Scott Glennie Brandon 22-Feb-91 6-foot-1 180 C R

Did my boy just pimp slap yours on his way up the standings?:naughty:

 Just kdding....

Its kinda cool to see the three guys we've been hyping doing so well... Honestly glennies position shocked the hell out of me. I figured he'd be a bit lower.. Looks like the improvement in speed helped huh? Wonder what it'd take for them to go 1-2-3 in the draft? :sarcasm:

HA!

P:S That Cowen kid's a BEAST! I know hedman gets all the ink but methuinks the kids destined to go either 2 or 3 overall

(by the way, if evander has the most "super-hero-ish" Kinda name, Viktor HEDman gets my vote for best Porno-name in the draft!)

What's the deal with Kane, though? He's by far the (North American) player I've seen the least of in the top 10; is he a power forward type, or does he shoot the puck alot (I'm hesitant to say "Sniper", as that's a wack term), is he prone to dishing more often...? The scouting profiles on him are sort of generic.

bad ankle... kid wants to skate with it but the med staff say its not gettin' better.

Hope it's not a high-ankle sprain. Those take a long time to heal. That would hurt his chances at junior tryout camp or, possibly, make him miss it all together. I don't like to see kids miss out on that chance because of injuries.
