De Boer announced his preliminary squad a few days ago, notably no VVD

According to wiki, France will announce their squad today along with Sweden; tomorrow Germany and Scotland

Hoping England doesn’t bring Henderson. Ambivalent on if Trent goes or not.

Netherlands have their work cut out for them with no van Dijk and de Boer at the helm. Such a dumb hiring. Oh well; I expect nothing even though there is some potential in this squad.

Would like to see:

Cillessen
Dumfries - de Vrij - de Ligt - Wijndal
Gravenberch - de Jong
Malen - Wijnaldum - Gakpo
Memphis

But de Boer is dumb so I doubt Gakpo, Wijndal or Gravenberch start. More likely Berghuis on the right and Luuk de Jong up top (why? idk).

Benzema should be part of the french NT according to multiple sources...
Don't think this is a smart move on Deschamps' part. Benzema is obviously world class, but is returning him to the fold this late in the game anything but disruptive? If he was gonna bring back Benz, he should've done it a year ago to give time to reintegrate. I could see this messing up chemistry in a fairly major way

I don't really think this is a problem.

VVD already said that he is going to miss out and focus on his return to full fitness for Liverpool in the fall.

While I think it's feasible he could have gotten through some matches (especially if Netherlands got to latter stages), it's probably best for his career to miss out.

There's a rumor that Trent won't be in it (at least that was what was floating around yesterday on the twitter verse)
If Trent isn’t in it, that’s more about Southgate than it is about Trent.

Add Slovakia to the squad announcements, however Tarkovic went more overboard than Shevchenko, named a 40-man squad mostly due to the fact a bulk of their players have club commitments into late May

Martin Olsson over Pierre Bengtsson and Ken Sema over Jesper Karlsson is absolutely unnaceptable. And I have not mentioned Granqvist yet. That is ridiculous. Janne is a brilliant coach, but this is not the best possible squad.

Best possible roster isn't the same as best possible squad/team.
Sometimes, coaches don't select players because while more talented than others, there are some reasons they don't fit :
1/ tactically
2/ don't like to be benched and will whine
3/ don't get along with others
4/ don't respect the coaches' demands (off or on the pitch)
5/ have a bad influence on others

More often that not, us fans just want the all star team from our country. But that doesn't mean the best collection of talents will perform better.

It's quite possible the most talented french team ever (and arguably of any country) was France 2002.
Best player in the world (Zidane), best scorer in EPL, Serie A and Ligue 1 (Henry, Trezeguet, Cissé), best defense in the world (Thuram-Blanc-Dessailly-Lizarazu), best DM in the world (Vieira), current WC and EC champ, coached by the guy who was brilliant in Euro 00.
End results : 1 point, 0 goal scored.

Yeah, that is true for sure. But in this case, the coach gave a spot out a 36 year old CB playing in the second division in Sweden because he was great in the 2018 WC. He gave a spot to a washed up Martin Olsson who hasn’t played all year over Bengtsson who usually does a great job. Sema over Karlsson is also strange with the great production Karlsson has put up, especially considering he is a much more talented player than of Sema. These selections don’t matter much though because none of the players mentioned will start. And Janne Andersson is a very good coach tactically, who has developed this Sweden team very well. So I got no real complaints.

Disappointed by the lack of Silvestri, Calabria, Dimarco. Mancini picking up names instead of players in great form. Meret, Pessina, Castrovilli seriously?
