High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
- Officer John G. Magee, Jr. - November, 1941

The Dark Hills
Dark hills at evening in the west,
Where sunset hovers like a sound
Of golden horns that sang to rest
Old bones of warriors under ground,
Far now from all the bannered ways
Where flash the legions of the sun,
You fade—as if the last of days
Were fading, and all wars were done.
- Edward Arlington Robinson
And a Poem that I try to live by, when I think of those who sacrificed for our freedom, or are putting their lives on the line each day, and find I am taking myself & my ‘problems’ too seriously.
As I Grow Old
As I grow old, the winds of life
Die down, the hate, the hurt, the strife
The waters calm, the waves go still
I hold no grudges, I wish no ill
To anyone, for from my heart
The ancient angers all depart
Joy is mine as new friends are won
Yes, as I grow old, I feel young
