Welcome! I hosted a mock draft at about this time of year last year, and I'm excited to do it again. This draft will be three rounds long, though if the group wants to extend it to four we can (I don't want to go past four though).

First of all, the clock is four hours long, with a freeze between 11PM EST and 8AM EST. Your four hours includes four hours outside of the freeze, so say you go on the clock at 8 PM EST, you'd have until 9 the following morning to make your pick. If you miss a pick, you will be given the highest undrafted player on the NHL CSS Final Rankings. If you are autoed you may change your pick, but you must do it before the next GM picks. Anyone can auto picks if I'm not around. If you don't think you'll be around to pick, PM me a list ;).

Post your initial roster and update it after you make a trade. There's a $75M cap maximum, $55 cap minimum; use Capfriendly as your source. You can re-sign any RFAs and UFAs on your team as long as it's cap compliant.

Trades are not official until both teams have confirmed it either in the thread or by PM. All trades must be cap compliant. Trades that either involve a player who absolutely won't be traded in real life (Crosby, McDavid, Karlsson) will be vetoed, as will trades that are extremely one-sided. Though I doubt I'll have to veto any trades, as veto-caliber trades are rare in these mocks.

Each team must protect 7F-3D-1G or 4F-4D-1G for the expansion draft. Teams that don't submit a list will have their list made for them through Capfriendly's quick protect tool. Use Capfriendly's expansion tool to see which players on your team are exempt, or have NMCs and must be protected. I expect a lot of interest in Vegas, so the team will likely by awarded through a lottery. PM me to enter it. Claim another team first before entering the lottery, in case you don't win Vegas. If you win Vegas, you will be asked to step down from your GM role of the other team you claimed.

If you are inactive and missing many picks you will likely be placed on permanent auto pick.

And the most important rule is, remember to PM the next GM! I've put links to everyone's PM box by everyone's name, so there are no excuses. State that you have PMed the next GM in your post, and if you simply can't, ask someone else to do it for you in your post. Mocks can fall apart quickly if PMs aren't being sent after every pick.

Remember that we're all just here to have fun. Don't negatively criticize every little thing other GMs do, especially if you aren't in this mock. There's a place for criticizing trades on HFBoards, and that's not here.

Draft order should be accurate per Capfriendly, but if you notice a mistake, let me know. We're assuming the Pens win in the Stanley Cup Finals as they're the higher seed (but also because I'm a Pens fan).

Teams will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis, so to sign up, simply post which team you'd like down below. Depending on how quickly this fills up, second teams may be allowed, but they won't be allowed until we're at least half full. Don't announce trades until all teams have a GM. I'll announce the time when expansion lists will be due soon, depending on how quickly this fills up.

Expansion Lists Due: FRIDAY, MAY 26TH, 11:59 PM ET
Expansion Draft: SATURDAY, MAY 27TH/SUNDAY MAY 28TH
Draft Commences: SUNDAY, MAY 28TH, 8 PM ET
(dates and times are subject to change)

Notes
The New Jersey Devils are still working on their rebuild, so veterans are being shopped right now so that we can continue our rebuild to the fullest extent. We will be willing to retain salary on any of our players

We would be willing to listen to offers on any one of our players, but the players on our trade block are the ones that we are looking to move.

We could use depth at all positions, but we feel that if we want to be good in the future, we will really need to stock up on players in all positions. Our main two needs are right wing and left-handed defenseman

We also would prefer to have a 4 round mock draft rather than three, as it will help to greater strengthen our prospect pool

Thanks to all who have signed up so far. Go ahead and start posting your initial rosters when you can.

Just a heads up to all who have entered the Vegas sweepstakes, if you win you'll probably be asked to step down from your role as GM of the other team you signed up for, unless we have still have a lot of openings left when the lottery is conducted. If you win Vegas but you decide that you'd prefer to keep your old team, you don't have to accept Vegas (I'll just offer it to the second-finishing team in the lottery).

Edit: Ryan Murphy is available, preferably for a forward prospect similar to him.
