As a Pens fan, I notice NJD sucks in the shootout this year, for next season or if they can somehow sign him this season away from his Euro-team, why not sign Erik Christensen? Has a career 52.2 % in the shootout otherwise known as best all-time (qualifying amount of attempts), besides that he put up about 20 goals playing with Crosby in 2006 so why can't he put up 12-15 with Zajac or Elias? He's pretty fast and has some of the most impressive shootout skills I've witnessed

He's always had a good shot and a nose for the net.
I'm not sure why he did not stick with the Rags a few seasons ago, he was good over there.

My proposal is trade the old assets at the deadline for picks and rebuild. This team has enough young role players. They need young top line talent, not more oldish role players. Signing guys like Christensen and making this team just mediocre enough to think its a player or two away from being good is perpetuating the problem.

I'd be all for Christensen. If I recall he's good at faceoffs too.

The shootout is pretty important in today's NHL. Having a specialist isn't a bad idea.

The way Pete yo-yos guys in and out of the lineup I can't imagine what he'd do with a guy like Christensen.

Because you know at some point we'd get Christensen-Elias-Bernier get 16:30 a night and then have Christensen NOT got in the shootout in favor of Clowe.

I should also add, if someone like Christen could get us three additional wins in the shootout per year (not a ridiculous assumption), those extra three points would already be worth more than what a typical fourth liner contributes.

Signing a guy purely for the shootout is risky roster management and it will never happen. If the Devils wanted to pursue this path for shootout help they would just call up Tedenby. But even than he was up here for a shootout once and PDB neglected to use him when he has arguably the slickest hands in the organization with Brunner/Elias.

How is it risky roster management? Fourth liners like Gionta and Bernier are replacement level. Christensen is probably replacement level for the first 65 minutes too, but he provides a real tangible benefit when it comes to the shootout.

And I don't know how you compare the shootout prowess of Tedenby to someone who's 50+% at the NHL level?

christensen looked done 6 years ago with atlanta, and he hasn't gotten any better since then. he has good tools, but he really, really cracks under pressure.
