It’s not exactly the most flattering stat, when you think about it.
Probably wouldn't have been so long if he had better players around him to feed him the puck. Carolina didn't have that for much of the latter part of his career outside of Semin going nuts during the lockout shortened season.

Congrats to him though. Still one of his biggest fans.

Still scored 40 goals in the NHL, there are probably a huge number of NHLers who wish they hit 40 goals once in their career, let alone twice!
This is Staal's 3rd 40 goal season.

It implies a very long prime, which is definitely not a bad thing.

Certainly a huge surprise. That'd be an interesting award, "Most Surprising". Not sure who they'd name that one after. W. Karlsson probably wins it this year though, regardless.

Kings haven't had a 40 goal scorer since Robitaille in 93-94. Unless you count Glen Murray, who scored 6 of his 41 in 01-02 before being shipped off to the Bruins and scoring 35 more. I personally don't count that though.

If Kopitar stays hot, there's an outside chance he could get there but he needs six goals in the final five games. That would sure help with the playoff push!

Point is, that's a heck of an arbitrary mark to hit, especially for a guy like Staal in his 14th year.

40 goals in today's NHL in his 14th season, that's pretty damn impressive. Especially on a team not known for high offensive output.
Last season Wild were top 5 in the league in scoring, this season top 10, but has only been improving through the season because they started out with so many injuries.

Boudreau teams usually know how to score goals.

And yet he looked like he was on his last legs in this league in his somewhat brief stint here in NY.

Just goes to show how AV consistently brings out the worst in his players
To be fair he looked like crap in Carolina, also. I thought he was going to be the worst signing of that free agency period to an albatross of a contract. Wroooooooong.
