It does seem a bit "frugal" to not archive stuff from years back.. it can't take up more than a few terabytes at most for most of the text on these forums... unless I'm underestimating the number of gifs/videos that are contained in the forums.

Another forum I frequent has everything saved back to 2000 from when the site began and they have a LOT more videos and storage intensive files than here. (not porn ).

I believe it has to do with moving servers.

It would take around 2 days of downtime to move the ~40M posts, so they're trying to cut that number in half.

It's a link to the gloomiest days of the franchise with Eakins at the helm.

This was part of an epic 2 part GDT that would have been stellar to keep together in all its brutal glory... but it appears that only the 2nd part of the GDT remains in the system right now.

The Pre Game Talk thread for that day has a link to part 1 of the GDT that night... but looks like part 1 is lost forever already... with just part 2 remaining on the site.
