Well, it's Dreger, so both have already been traded, for what his information on the Canucks is usually worth.

Both of these players are vastly overrated, Hughes especially.

Somehow, someway, for sure, the Canucks will overpay
Hughes has 1 bad defensive year and he is overrated?
Yet puts up huge offensive numbers.

Did people forget how good he was in the playoffs?, and his 1st season defensively and offensively.

Hughes is breaking early offensive records that Hall of Famers like Brian Leetch holds but he is not a great dman because he isnt a complete player like Hedman?

LOL he has a bad defensive season where the whole team was ravished with Covid then played 19 games in 32 nights now all of a sudden he is over-rated.

LMAO, go for a run after you get over covid and see whats thats like, now imagine 19 games in 32 nights.

I'll take the production that he gives on the ice any day which is elite level and historic puck moving , possesion and point producing numbers and hope he can improve the rest of his defensive game at his old age of 21

Hughes

Bridge: 3 yrs - 6.2 mil per
Long Term: 7 yrs- 8 mil per

Petterson

Bridge: 3 years - 7.4 mil per
Long Term: 7 years 9 mil per

Whats most hilarious to me is when people try to clump him in as a "power play speicliast" and thats all.

Even if he is that, which he is not, there isnt just one level of "powerplay specialist"

Hughes would be at the top of that mountain with his elite numbers.

97 pts in 129 regular season games
16 pts in 17 playoff games

It's sad that people act like children and make these threads a steaming pile of shit. Petey the highest scoring player from his draft while putting up some of the best underlying numbers in hockey to go long with the eye test.
Quinn the ppg scoring from his draft class with 40 less points than Svetch in 78 less games. His poor defensive stats are mostly from the first 19 games last season. Was only a minus ten as a 20-year-old playing top mins on a below average defensive team. Was a -2 in 18 playoff games averaging 25+ mins a night while being a ppg against 3 heavy team's including defending cup champs and previous western conference champs.
But sure focus on one bad stretch
where if you did 5 minutes of checking you would see exactly why he and the whole team took a hit numbers wise.

the comparable is sitting right there in front of their eyes with Dahlin
surprised Vancouver hasn't closed yet

Takes him to 24-25, and if you choose big money long term that contract goes to 33 which is when you want a contract to end.

Word is The Canucks and Hughes were close to a bridge below 6m AAV but the recent Dahlin signing forced a re-negotiation as its a direct comparable.

Would be shocked if neither these guys are not signed by mid week next week.

3 years 6ish mill like Dahlin type money

Just get that done and worry about it again in 3 years.

Petey... I dunno, Svech type money long term OR 3 years 6-7 per year? .. there are tons of comparables out there to get this done fast

It's important these guys get back asap and get some training camp in

Never thought Hughes was the issue, it's obvious EP is the one holding up the deals. The kid is one of the best in the game but had a really down year due to injury

It just seems weird to me that they haven't closed at a slight higher AAV than Dahlin @ like 6.15 and left the the other $10 million to negotiate with pettersson

Pat Brisson is a good agent,

He knows the Canucks might be coming into more money by Friday if Hamonic opts out (3milAAV, 6mil total)

I'm sure they are waiting until then to see if they can squeeze more out of the Canucks.
