Really??? If he is so freaking great and you have the best player in the world in McJesus then why in the hell is your team still so God damned awful??? I mean the pens won 2 cups in a row with a defense no better than yours. LD is a great player and I'd love to have him on the Flyers but you guys act like he is one of the 10 best players in the world and he simy isn't. If he were so damned great and only a #2 center because of McD then he'd be as dominant as Malkin is saying behind the legit best player in the world in Crosby and LD simy isn't.

Plain and simply, if this opportunity presented itself (assuming that you had a deal in place for an extension with EK) the Oilers make this trade IMMEDIATELY!!!

I'm failing to see how a guy that spent pretty close to 3/4 of the season playing as a wing on the on McDavid line is somehow being called "elite selke caliber" and being compared to Kopitar.

How about we wait until Draisaitl even plays a full season at center before we start the outrageous comparisons yeah?

I didn't say he was an elite selke caliber player. I said HE'S ON HIS WAY. Learn to read.

Sub - .900 goaltending didn’t help (which last I checked Ottawa had too this season and Karlsson didn’t save them).

The difference between the Pens and Oilers right now is

Malkin > Draisaitl
Kessel >> RNH
Letang > any Oiler D
Pens depth >>> Oilers depth.

We’ve got a lot of work to do and a lot of Dumoulins and Guentzels to come out of the woodwork.

Draisaitl is a very, very good player. I have no qualms saying there are already aspects of his game that are elite - even strength scoring, puck protection, and he finished as a top 10 faceoff man this year as well.

There’s a lot wrong with this team but Draisaitl isn’t it. He just got overpaid by a million, because Chiarelli.

Seems actually fair for both teams, edge will be the Sens with contract certainty and picks.

No by the Oilers. Reason is new deals by both EK and Duchene after next season. If either refuses to sign, this would be another of many recent terrible Oilers trades.

Draisaitl played way more without Mcdavid than with him this year on 5v5 though

Not really true. From CorsicaHockey -Draisaitl's 5v5 min this year are:
289.93 w/ McDavid and Maroon
98.08 w/ McDavid and Lucic
104.8 w/ Strome and Khaira
76.77 w/ Lucic and Cammalleri
61.3 w/ Aberg and Caggiula
52.5 w/ Caggiula and Strome

This is only because Draisaitl’s wingers has been switched all the time when on his own line, and looking at line combinations thus gives a false picture. According to naturalstattrick, he played 489 minutes with Mcdavid, and 621 minutes without him on 5v5.

Not even close.

Something people here don't seem to understand is that If Karlsson / Duchene were to be traded it would be after the 1st and the destination team would be given permission to speak to the player / agent to agree to terms on an extension. So it would be a trade and extension immediately. The whole idea that 'you'd get 1 season from these guys, so their value is lower' is an argument that doesn't grasp how a trade like this would work.

The proposed value of this trade isn't close. No. Just no.

I don't want Duchene . Karlsson i am not willing to pay the price for until he shows he is over his injury . He had a real down season compared to his norm . With the Oilers luck they trade for him and he continues to decline while Draisaitl continues to get better .

Also the Oilers don't have enough depth to be trading picks like they are candy

Do the Oilers have the cap space to even do that move? They'd have to dump Lucic in a separate deal I think.

Karl looks exactly like he did after his Achilles surgery years back. The guys is a fitness freak and will bounce back fully as he has proven to do so. Guy still leads our team in scoring this year and all D in ppg lmao

A lot of people argue about his value but the truth is the guy is the best player I've ever seen, generational d-man, and trading him will be the biggest mistake in franchise history regardless of the return. There is zero chance we get a guy of Karlsson caliber back because there's like 5 of them in the entire league.

Given that he finished the season leading all D in points per game, I think you can safely say he is just fine.

Karlsson immediately makes both their special teams better while also making up for Draisaitls point production.

That isn't what I asked........does he make the defense better? I understand he is an offensive Dman and special teams specialist which takes pressure off of the Defense at times, but is he really a good defender?

To:
:edmonton Erik Karlsson (agrees to resign), Matt Duchene

To:
:sensLeon Draisaitl, Adam Larsson, 2018 1st (top 3 protected), 2019 2nd

This was as close as I could get to a fair deal where Karlsson gets traded to the Oilers. Obviously McDavid wouldn't be included, but Draisaitl definetely gets the discussion started. However, both teams would want a replacement for the stars they are giving up. The sens get a defensive RHD to replace Karlsson (albeit a downgrade) and the oilers get a strong 2c (downgrade from Drai). I added two high picks to even out the value.

Is this trade fair?
If you remove the protection and make the 2nd a 2018, I don't think it's far off.
Keep in mind that a re-signed Karlsson is probably going to cost you 11-12 mill.

I can't see Karlsson extending in Edmonton to be honest. Why wouldn't he just stay in Ottawa if he wanted to be committed to a team with a shaky office and murky long term success?

Where he ends up is anyone's guess, but my money is on a team with a strong young core that has had more than one season in the playoffs recently and is trending upwards with his addition. Similar to what I see Tavares doing.
