Easily Edvinsson. Guy is already doing things nobody did at Sweden as 18-year-old.

I laughed when seeing more votes for Johansson.:help:

Tough to say. I think Johansson probably has the edge in the early going because of the added experience and he is just generally more offensive-minded. But on the other hand, unless something goes seriously wrong Edvinsson should have a much quicker development curve. I'm voting Johansson for now, but wouldn't be surprised to see Edvinsson surpass him by the end of the season.

why? this is a guy that was in the top 20 in the SHL in defenseman scoring last year

a year older he's probably pretty likely to be somewhere around the top 10 this year

will Edvinsson manage more than that? possibly, but it's far from a stretch to call Johansson the favorite here

The answer is that it's probably Edvinsson because the early returns from his season in the big league in Frolunda are extremely encouraging for a guy his size and with his skating. To be 6'6" with elite skating (at any size) puts him into extremely rarified air for a defensive prospect. Thankfully we have both so this question is kinda moot.

I mean, what is location, really
Johansson is a little more offensively oriented, IMO. Also, the extra year will help.

Besides, I have a feeling SHL teams are going to catch onto the fact that the giant guy on LD likes to pinch constantly and start closing on him a little faster.

I voted Johansson. I think he's going to get 25+ points this season. Although I think Edvinsson will have a great year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him slow down his pace by the midway point. And let's not forget that Johansson's 19 points last year was something like the 7th or 8th best season for a junior aged defender. If Edvinsson hits those SHL totals that would be incredible.

I guess it's worth looking at some ice time data with a comparison like this, and it's definitely pretty interesting at least so far. Edvinsson logs second most ice time among Frölunda D's but only plays 5-on-5. Johansson on the other hand is only Färjestad's 5th D in average ice time and basically only plays 5-on-5 as well, whereas last season he played a good amount of PP.

Edvinsson - 18:44 TOI, 0:00 PP, 18:24 ES, 0:19 PK
Johansson - 16:41 TOI, 0:09 PP, 16:21 ES, 0:11 PK
Johansson 20-21 - 17:29 TOI, 1:40 PP, 15:41 ES, 0:08 PK.

If this continues (I hope not for Johansson) my money is on Edvinsson.

It's early in the season. I would expect Johansson to get top 3 minutes on D as the season progresses.

Oh I'm dumb and didn't realize this was about scoring when I voted.

Great question honestly, I could see this going either way. I'll stick with my current answer of Edvinsson, but it's a coin flip in my eyes.

If Johansson is getting less icetime and a smaller role than last year - why the f*** did we leave him in Sweden?
He and Soderblom should already be in GR.

Is he on ELC? not sure how that works exactly
He's on an ELC and it depends on what's written in the loan agreement. This article is from last season, but if the agreement was written the same way then he can be recalled to GR.

Why Detroit Red Wings have loaned a seventh prospect overseas

Every player on loan can be recalled at the Wings’ discretion, assistant general manager Ryan Martin told the Free Press.

“All our agreements (are) written the same way,” Martin said.

Johansson was a top scoring dman in the league last year and he isn’t getting PP time this year???
The Swedes can be really quirky.
The larger rosters cut into individuals’ ice-time. I see no reason for the larger roster other than to be different than the NHL.
The smaller rinks and more physical play in the AHL is more like the league they are preparing for.
The AHL is a developmental league where development of young players is prioritized over winning.
I hope Yzerman learned his lesson and will encourage prospects like Johansson and Soderblom to come to NA.

Can't help but wonder what's going on here. Hoping for a little more context from our SHL followers. Minor injury perhaps?
