REGULAR SEASON INJURIES/ILLNESSES Man Games Lost: 72

UPCOMING SCHEDULE Game 3: May 19, 6:30 p.m. (ET) at Boston (NBCSN, NBCSW, 99.1 FM/Caps Radio 24/7) Game 4: May 21, 6:30 p.m. (ET) at Boston (NBCSN, NBCSW, 99.1 FM/Caps Radio 24/7)

Tonight's Game The Capitals face the Boston Bruins on Saturday in Game 2 of the First Round of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Capitals are 25-24 in Game 2s in franchise history, 16-14 in Game 2s played at home and 13-15 when leading a series 1-0. The Capitals have won two of their last three Game 2s played at home. Alex Ovechkin has earned 28 points (17g, 11a) in 21 career Game 2s. The Capitals have recorded 42 playoff wins since 2015, the secondmost wins in the NHL during that span (Tampa Bay: 54). The Capitals split the regular season series with the Bruins, 4-4-0. Nicklas Backstrom led the Capitals this season with nine points (1g, 8a) in eight games against the Bruins. Washington had 16 different goal scorers against Boston, with T.J. Oshie leading the way with five goals. The Capitals are 20-6-0 (.769 point percentage) against the Bruins in the regular season since the start of 2014-15, the most wins in the NHL versus Boston during that span (New York Rangers, 2nd: 13 wins). During that same span, Washington is 10-3-0 vs. Boston at Capital One Arena and have outscored the Bruins 42-26 in those 13 games. This marks the fourth time the two franchises have met in the playoffs for a playoff series (1990 Conference Final, 1998 Conference Quarterfinal, 2012 Conference Quarterfinal). Washington has an all-time series record of 2-1 against Boston and a 10-9 record in playoff games, which includes last season's Round Robin playoff game in Toronto, which the Capitals won 2-1.

Boston Bruins: Media Notes

TONIGHT’S GAME - The Bruins visit the Capitals tonight in game 2 of their best-of-7 Round One series ... The Capitals lead the series 1 game to none. - Boston is in the post-season for the 5th straight season and 74th all-time in their history ... Their 74 post-season berths are 2nd all-time in NHL history to MTL’s 85. - This is the 6th Round One series for Boston since the NHL adopted the format in 2013-14 and they are 4-1 in those series ... Overall, they are playing their 35th first round series (preliminary series, division semifinals, conference quarterfinals and round one series) with an 18-16 record entering this post-season ... They are 15-11 in those series which have been best-of-7 formats. - The Bruins enter this series with a 38-18 record in best-of-7 series in which they have won game 1 and they are 15-34 in best-of-7 series in which they have lost game 1. - Patrice Bergeron will play his 151st NHL playoff game tonight, moving him past Zdeno Chara into 2nd place on the team’s all-time post-season games played list.

MILESTONES APPROACHING - Five Bruins - Anton Blidh, Trent Frederic, Oskar Steen, Jeremy Swayman and Urho Vaakanainen - are looking to play their first NHL playoff games ... Swayman dressed as backup in game 1. - Brad Marchand is five points shy of his 100th NHL playoff point. - Tuukka Rask is six games short of his 100th NHL playoff game and he is two wins shy of tying Gerry Cheevers’ club mark of 53 post-season wins.

INJURIES - Ondrej Kase - upper body - Jakub Zboril - upper body - John Moore - hip surgery

BOSTON vs WASHINGTON, LIFETIME SERIES - The Bruins and Capitals have played 3 lifetime playoff series with WSH holding a 2-1 series advantage ... They have played 19 games (including the 2020 round robin game) with WSH holding a 10-9 edge and BOS holding a 46-41 goals for/against advantage. - Their previous series was the 2012 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series which WSH won 4-3 ... That series was the 1st time in NHL history that every game in a 6- or 7-game series was decided by one goal. - Their 1st 2 series were the 1990 Prince of Wales Conference Championship with BOS taking a 4-game sweep ... The 2nd series was a 6-game WSH win in the 1998 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal. - David Krejci the leading playoff scorer vs. WSH with 1-3=4 totals. - FYI: WSH’s Kelly Miller took an unsuccessful penalty shot on BOS’ Andy Moog on 5/3/1990 in the 1990 Prince of Wales Conference Championship series, which is the only penalty shot between these teams and 1 of just 7 taken against BOS in their playoff history ... The 4 OT games between these teams in their 2012 Conference Quarterfinal series was the most in a BOS sereis since their 1939 Semifinal series vs. the NYR ... The last 10 playoff games between these teams have been decided by 1 goal.

In the extremely limited time on ice together since the 2018-19 season (26:24), the Connor Clifton/Kevan Miller combo have been on the ice for 2 goals allowed and 0 goals for.

Looking specifically at Clifton vs the Capitals this season:
  • Games: 8
  • Average Time on Ice: 19:08
  • Assists : 1
  • Even Strength Goal Differential when on ice: +5

I'm cool with Clifton drawing into the lineup tonight. Sucks that Lauzon isn't able to go, as he was one of the few that showed some pushback.

I'll be looking at Clifton and Miller for some fireworks though.

If Debrusk looks good again early he has to move up.

It kind of looks like we have two 4th lines right now. Would really like Debrusk on the left with Coyle and Ritchie.

It's more or less the same thing though. Kuraly played 13.5 last game to Debrusk's 12.

I prefer 4 strong lines. Washington is rolling that. We have to keep those shifts intense and short. I have no real problem with 3a and 3b

kthx

This I want to see tonight:

- Coyle as a 3C
- Kuraly back in the 4th line
- Frederic in
- Shots -> Get people to the net -> Lucky bounces for B's
- A win, please

My daughter is ready for her first playoff game with Dad! Lets make it a good one!

GO Bs!
Aw very cute.

@smack66 I missed you last game and saw your post "missed last game due to illness. I'm ready for tonight's win. " I hope you are doing OK.

A win tonight...No injuries.

Bs 4...Craps 2. Wilson goes to run one of the Bruins and takes himself out.

Hey Steve, We could use a bit of help from where you are. I hope the Bs win tonight.

HERE WE GO BRUINS...HERE WE GO :clap:

He did push back for sure, but he also got turnstiled by Ovechkin multiple times. Tough assignment but maybe Cliffy will have better luck with it.
