I have no issue with Laich's salary. $4.5M right now doesn't even get you David Clarkson.

Pouliot got 5x4. Pouliot who played for 5 teams in the last 5 years and had a career high of 36 pts last year.

Pointing out that there are even worse contracts than Laich's doesn't make his contract good. Clarkson and Pouliot are pretty bad contracts.

At the time it was signed, it was about market price for a player of his skill level. The market price has gone up since then, but Laich's value has also decreased due to continued lack of production and injuries. I doubt he'd get $4.5M on the open market this summer, for instance.

That being said, I wouldn't jettison him for the sake of jettisoning him.
