Doesn't Toronto need more capable D? Do you not have enough high calibre forwards? I am willing to do Nylander for Klefbom if it helps you guys

Oilers pass quickly, and as bad as folks think Gardiner is, the Leafs won't move him. They will hopefully find a D 1st partner for Rielly, then drop Hainsey to shelter Gardiner's mishaps.
I would like to see how many teams have traded their leader in ATOI directly after a 100+ point season.

Lol Gardiner is garbage defensively and it showed prominently at the playoffs. No way he's even close to RNH.
Which playoff games did you watch? Did you even watch the Leafs-boston series or are you just spewing BS others have said?

How about Caps vs Leafs the year before whereby Gardiner was arguably the best defender on either side in the series?

Watched the entire series where the Leafs were horrid in their own zone with turnovers galore and inability to defend their own zone. What? Did you watch the series and think the defense was good?
No I watched the Leafs forwards cheat in the offensive zone like crazy, not cover their man on the breakout etc etc. Blaming the Leafs defense is not exactly fair. It's a team game and the Leafs forwards were not making it easy on their defenders at all.

Gardiner had a really bad game 7 but other than that he was one of the better defenders on the Leafs. Made some very good defensive plays, 3/4 of which stopped guaranteed goals through stick lifts or tangling up a player about to get a tap in. Saying he is garbage defensively just isn't fair. He is average defensively and played with a partner who was struggling with injury all year.

value aside, another $6M forward doesn't make sense for the Leafs. Nylander to center and filling the wings with our NHL ready wing prospects makes sense, or a less expensive 3rd line center from somewhere does too

Gardiner should be available for a package of futures, not because we're dying to be rid of him, because Dermott looks ready to take his minutes and we should be looking to preserve the asset value

OMG....you are touting a forward who scores at or less than the defenseman you are criticizing and makes around $2MM more all while playing with McDavid?
Feel the shame....

Typical leaf oilers thread

For those tossing rocks at Nuge and the oilers not making the playoffs

Gardeners playoff performance deeply hurt his value
really doubt that's true, GM's aren't likely to place a lot of weight on a 7 game sample especially where that 7 games doesn't support a trend like "not good in the playoffs" as Gardiner was very good in his other playoff appearances

The Oilers were a much much better team than their result would indicate this year

He played with McDavid the last little bit of the season and was scoring at a crazy pace. Before that he was saddled with the likes of Lucic.

I think the leafs are happy with their guy and Oilers fans look forward to seeing Nuge at a ppg next year with Connor.
