You’re not wrong. The problem is there are still nhl gms that get hard over guys with his size. Niemo like many others shouldn’t see a lick of nhl time, but because he can crush guys someone might give him a chance

The AHL is chalk full of players like Niem as well as several NHL pressboxes. Our D is poor and we waived him. That is not a ringing endorsement.

If he's not good enough to make the elite Oilers D core then I doubt any other team would want to use a roster spot on him.

He’s big and smashy, but his puck skills are absolutely nonexistent. They’re a 1/10 at best. I’d be very surprised if he got claimed.

Well you can't teach size, and you can theoretically develop other stuff later.

Early Chara was a hot mess (no I'm not endorsing this particular player, just saying that's why GMs "get hard" over guys with size)
