No, they based it on the fact that they had little cap space and while not ideal for a 1-2, they'd have to make it work for at least a season
We all know this but getting out of the Hall contract and dumping grzy would have been a sizable amount of money and you ended up with the sludge at the bottom of the tank. Wouldn’t you rather see them give Lysell or Merkalov a real look?

Still think with a shoot mentality they could have won this series,oh well should be a interesting off season, money to spend ,will Sweeney spend it wisely we will see, some have said they expect the six D that played the last couple of games will be the starting 6 ,I hope not it needs work to go along with up front.

They need to move Ullmark for a couple of reasons. To free up the money to pay Swayman, because it’s Swayman’s net now, and to upgrade the roster.

However, other teams know that the Bruins need to move him, and they can also get him in free agency without spending an asset in a trade if they just wait a year.

I agree he has to go, but I think many will be disappointed with the return they get.
Agree in general and if using logic in a vacuum.

But, teams have “windows” and expectations. GM’s can be impulsive and aggressive and depending on the circumstances can make moves that may not make sense to anyone other than them.

Take Edmonton (and I know Ullmark won’t waive to go there, this is just an example) if they lose this series and are worried about losing Draisaitl, maybe they overpay a bit to get the goaltender they need to make a run.

I think they can get a 1 and a little more or a plug and play 2nd liner for him.

But that’s just my recently punched gut talking.

Florida scored 6 PP goals in 2 games when so-called PK specialist Forbort was in the lineup.

Florida also has elite talent. The PP is where it shows. 5v5 they play as though they are NYI level of talent, or lack thereof. Odd system but it clearly works especially when they shifted from 2019 Blues to Habs.

Why would Ullmark not go to Edmonton does he prefer not to go west ,Canadian team?

IDK, I’ve just read on here many times that he’d be unlikely to waive for them.

It’s just one of these things I’ve just assumed was true.

But….you're right, we don’t really know.

I don't get NESN during the playoffs

..just Canadian announcers who are mostly glad when/if the Bruins lose
I actually thought the play-by-play guy (Jack Michaels, I think) was good. Gary Galley I could do without, however. No idea why they don’t use Rick Ball or John Shorthouse in the playoffs, however. They are my favourites in the current crop.

Donny gets A plus to retooling this team on the fly. Honestly we should be in the dark ages after chara bergy rask dk left. Under his watch McAvoy lindholm zacha jake Frederic carlo linus swayman Coyle. Now with new additions poitras and lohrei in the fold . Team will be contending for years especially now with all that cap space and a massive trade chip like linus who can get you a top center or top draft pick. Donny best in the business in my opinion .

They did get out of Hall. Grz would have added $3.7 million, so not nearly enough to add a impact player.

Don, teams know the bruins need to deal Ullmark and could just wait a year for FA possibly as well, not giving up an asset at all

Manage your expectations

Sweeney has the opportunity of a lifetime this offseason to take this team to the next level. With somewhere between $20-25 mil.of capspace ( Ullmark trade included ) it can be done. What I am hoping for is a Necas acquisition and a FA signing of either Lindholm/Stephenson. I also hope that Debrusk is resigned. To make that happen the Bruins will likely have to move someone like Coyle or Zacha, I doubt that happens but I can dream. The goaltending with Swayman and our D is good enough, we just need to seriously upgrade our Center position.
