I saw this section in the rulebook, and this snippet of an article pointing out the definition of possession isn’t clear enough.

So at the end of the day it depends on what the definition of”possession” means and it’s currently vague enough that the refs can just make it up on the spot it seems

Correct...you have read it exactly right, it's vague but....

Refs have been defining "possession" both ways for a few years now, especially when a puck is that close to the receiving player. That puck was almost on Reinhardt's stick.
