Montgomery has taken an inferior roster very far. Hardly on him, although designating Kelly as PP coach is odd.

According to the Bruins' organization, Chris Kelly could play anywhere in the lineup, in any situation. I think that reputation continues in his coaching career.

He just may be the goaltending coach next season.

Just home from game 2

If game 1 was fun then this game was the polar opposite ....disappointing, frustrating and at times just plain bewildering

Some thoughts

-it wasn't that the Leafs were so good, it's was more the Bs played the second and third period without any sense of passion, focus or cohesion

-how a team can score with seven seconds left in the first and then be so flat the rest of the game is mind boggling

-then again TWO too many players on the ice penalties points to a team not focused on the task

-I hope Marchand is injured...the alternative to his horrendous play is even worse to contemplate

-paging T Fredrick...who skated like his was carrying the seventh player trophy on his back

- can the Bs please stop trying to ring the puck out of their D zone...the number of times the Leafs forwards were positioned to stop the pass was conservatively in double digits ...the inability or unwillingness ( or coaching orders) to skate it out gave the Leafs a huge territorial advantage

- and finally ...who dumps the puck in and goes for a line change with their goalie pulled ..it makes me question what kind of coaching chaos is taking place behind the bench

Like Game 1 this is only one game ... a winnable game that was frittered away- now the teams head to Hogtown tied 1-1 and the Toronto media will be predicting a five game series

Marchand isn't a line driver anymore. But he is the closest they have after Pasta. Don't think that putting him up with Pasta makes that line good enough to have the rest of your forward group be a good third line and two 4th lines.
Especially in Toronto where they can match lines easier.

Reports on 98.5 said McAvoy looked exhausted late in the game and Gryz barely played in the 3rd.

All the more reason to pull Gryz and play Spoons and Forbort Wednesday. Cannot have that kind of fatigue on Mac this early…
Not sure why he would do that to Chuck down a D man.You cannot shorten it like that & especially with Lindholm playing subpar.Reeks of panic.

He had two of the best goalies in the league. That alone take Boston fromm bubble team to 2nd in Atlantic. In a league where many teams need better goaltenders.
Pasta is a top 5 player in the world
Marchand a great HOF leader.
10 million dollar supposed Norris trophy candidate. ( who has looked better under both previous coaches)
Many coaches would drool over having that.
As a hab fan I watch Pastrnak and know we haven't had a guy that good since Lafleur retired 40 years ago!
Montgomery ain't exactly coaching crap.
He's a decent coach but he is guilty of over coaching in . Especially in play offs. Over thinks and tries to do too much. Pat Burns was guilty if that......then he learned. Monty will too.

One thing that bothers me is they let Matthews just skate around untouched.Should be trying to smash him

Do you not understand that star players have been dodging hits since juniors? The reason these guys are top tier players is because they are aware of everything happening on the ice.

It isn’t a conscious decision to purposely not be hitting the best players on the other team.

A lot has to go right to connect with a notable hit on a premier player.

We didn’t exploit their D like in game one

We didn’t make Sammy work at all

Forecheck might be an even bigger issue that clearing the puck out of our zone

Now we will see how Monty adjusts

Lastly…..why does NESN…..show those Maple Leaf fans cheering after a goal in loser square? Think Sportsnet would show something like that in Boston??? No chance
Ummmmm because NESN sux.
