The NHL doesn't need gimmicky theme nights to fill the seats. The ECHL probably does. That said, I'm a big Star Wars fan, but I'm not feeling those jerseys at all.

Couldn't agree more with this post. The lower the quality of the league is, the more their demographic shifts to families with young'uns who wouldn't get as much value out of NHL priced tickets. These are the fans who would probably get the most out of the theme nights compared to the actual hockey being played.

Love it, and the ECHL of all their crazy gimmicks. Anyone else remember when one of the California teams brought a live condor out on the ice for the anthem and the thing decided that was it's chance to escape?

Finnish Liiga team Blues used these atrocities a couple of weeks back. That's the pig charecter from Angry Birds. Even though it was a charity thing I'm happy they lost for selling out.

Exactly. The ECHL isn't marketing towards the die-hard hockey fans, they're marketing to families and younger fans. The Bakersfield Condors are masters at this.

Star Wars is a pretty common jersey promotion night, especially since the switch to Disney. They're usually for charity and Star Wars is one thing you can bank on attracting interest.

Could have gone with a much more simple approach. White jersey could have storm tropper or droid cues, black jerseys could be Vader, yellow or gold c3p0 etc..
