Shakeup trade for both clubs involving Top-6 UFA forwards who bring different things to the table.

Silfverberg

for

Skinner (1M retained)

For Anaheim, they add more offensive punch and balance out the LW/RW better IMO:

Rakell - Getz - Perry
Skinner - Henrique - Kase
Cogs - kesler - Eaves/Terry
Ritchie - Grant(hopefully) - Eaves/Terry

For the Hurricanes, they add a great two-way forward who maybe in a different system, can become a 20G forward again. Should they return to the playoffs, he has a great resume there, as well.

Both teams can simply walk next summer should their new guy not work out.

Simmonds for Skinner I see the value in regards to a UFA for UFA trade. PP specialist who plays a physical game fits a lot of needs for the Canes. Silfverberg just feels like a large downgrade in offensive ceiling for a minor boost in overall floor (although my exposure to him is more limited than most). For me at that point the Canes would be better off just holding Skinner until the Trade Deadline.

I think it's a pretty good OP (can probably throw away the $1 M retained, that wouldn't happen), but I think CAR passes.

They are looking to add more scoring (I think) and Silfverberg is a downgrade from Skinner in that department, even if Silfverberg has some strengths in his overall game that Skinner does not. The 1 for 1 value is not far off imo, but I think CAR would need the extra piece added from ANA for incentive to consider making this deal.

Even if Anaheim adds, I'm not sure I would do the deal. We're trying to compete next year, downgrading one of our best goal scoring forwards for a guy like Silfverberg doesn't really help us. The only way I trade Skinner is if the deal makes us a better team. And I'm especially not retaining salary for a deal such as the one in the OP.

Our GM already said he'll be ready for training camp.

I see him coming back, but probably turning back into a pumpkin with regards to his playing time/scoring totals. When we got him in the 2016-2017 season he had a career high 79 games and over double his previous season point totals. Prior to that his high point was 27 points, 54 games

As a Canes fan, I would probably do it except the Canes should be just fine next season at RW. TT, Svech and Williams. Where would Silfverberg fit?

Justin Williams is still in the league? Had no idea honestly.

As for the proposal, I would do it, but I would imagine Canes would want us to add. I also understand why they would not want to move Skinner in the first place.

Don't see why Carolina would do that deal unless they're certain Skinner won't stay.

I have no desire to keep Skinner and if Silfverberg had 2 years remaining, i would do it in a heartbeat.

But why? The Canes need more middle 6 wingers who struggle to score 20 goals like a diabetic needs a 12 pack of Krispy Kreme donuts.
Skinner can score goal, generally streaky though. Beyond that, he doesn't play defense and doesn't make his linemates better. I think a more complete better makes the Canes better than Skinner's one-dimensional play.

Everyone knows Silfverberg is a more complete player. But this team already has trouble scoring goals without Skinner, I doubt Silfverberg prevents enough goals realistically to make up for the decreased goal scoring we'll get from him. It just makes scoring goals for this team even more difficult so we can add another two way middle 6 winger which we already have, and have tons of prospects who fit that mold in the AHL already.

I think Svech and the rookies (Foegele and Zykov; or Necas and one of them, if Necas is ready) will score more than Di Guiseppe and Jooris and Ryan. Perhaps significantly more. So moving Skinner for a 20-25 goal scorer is not bad per se. I don't think Silfverberg is the best option. But if there is something added, he might make sense.

If Silfverberg can prevent 10 more goals than Skinner, scores 10 less goals than Skinner and actually makes his linemates better, resulting in them scoring more goals, then overall the Canes improve.
