Great stuff! Unsustainable stint or not I think he can be a solid 3rd line guy for us that can jump up and down the lineup occasionally.

This was an amazing trade. I feel bad for the Habs fans, they weren't happy about it either. I feel like Matteau is a bust at the NHL level and the worst first rounder we've had in a decade and a half.

I really would love to see that photoshopped picture of DSP with the Devils shirt that some Montreal fan made, with the phrase ''Well coached hockey'' on the front of it. I forget if it was a hoodie or T-shirt. I very much enjoyed it at the time.

He brought something to our lineup that was missing and I'm glad we will see that for at least 2 more years. I think he fits great into that 2nd or 3rd line RW depending on how the coaches want to approach things.

Give me 20-25 goals, prove the haters wrong!

People assume he's going to be a 4th liner. He could be a very good 2/3RW. Everyone agrees he produces with the minutes and linemates. He had an unsustainable shooting percentage but his goals were goals that happen when hard work pays off. His points/60 was 1.91 which is great. I don't think 20 goals in unrealistic for him at all. 25 I don't know, maybe, but he can score 20 in the right situation. I'm expecting 15-20 next year if he plays on the third line with a competent center.

Statistically he probably can't have the stretch he had when he joined...

But there's no denying the game he played was impactfull. Will it translate to same rate of production as his initial stint, probably not, but his style of play will influence how they play around the net (ie. much improved).....something we were very much lacking, except for maybe Kalinin trying hard there.

I'm hoping he find a constant spot on the 3rd line , but we'll see how camp shapes out with Zacha hopefully coming in hot.

I see bright things ahead for DSP as long as he fully buys in to improving as a hockey player including the offseason.

He has the talent to be an effective forward.

DSP's problem came from not being in shape and not working hard in Montreal and Anaheim. I think he came in overweight and never really recovered his reputation in MTL. Working on conditioning is big for him.

Fun stats:

In his games in Montreal where he had 13+ minutes of TOI:
October 30th: 1 goal (13:44)
November 5th: 0 pts(13:25)
November 7th: 1 assist (13:22)
November 25th: 2 goals (15:06)
November 28th: 0 pts (16:10)
February 9th: 1 goal (13:51)

6GP 4G 1A 5PTS

In New Jersey he had 13+ minutes(every game):
18GP 8G 5A 13PTS

Total (MTL_NJ):
24GP 12G 6A 18PTS

Now I don't think that's sustainable production, especially goal-wise but that's when he has top 6-9 minutes. I think he at least deserves a chance to prove that he's not a top 6 guy.

The biggest complaint is his shooting % but if you adjust it to 12%(which isn't absurd by any means) he still ends up with 12 goals on the year instead of 14 in 64 games(~15 goals over 82 games). And that's playing an average of 12:18 mins per game.

Bottom line: Let him prove himself in the top 6. If he can't cut it then he can't cut it. There's no reason he can't be a 3RW on this team. 15 goals in ~12 mins of ice time on this team would be great.
