Alright... So a while back I did a poll that turned out pretty damn good between Nyl and Guentzel. After checking it was locked when votes were tied at 76.

Now that there is one between Drouin and Nyl, with Drouin winning. Therefore I’m curious on what will happen here.

Guentzel:
Current: 44p in 45gp
Last season 48p in 82gp
Season before 33p in 40gp

Playoffs
16-17 : 21 points in 25 games
17-18 : 21 points in 12 games

Drouin:
Current: 34p in 46
Last season: 46p in 77 gp
Season before: 53pts in 73gp

Playoffs:
Hasn’t been in playoffs since 15/16. However still got 14p in 17gp

Why not pull out the stats with/without Crosby for Guentzel... if we want proper comparisons:

Guentzel played 76% of his EV shifts with Crosby for 35 points.
The 24% he wasnt with Crosby: 1 point.

Case closed.

Eh its not that simple. He plays a significant amount with Crosby and scores a lot with him. If he had a similar distribution without Crosby he would have like 70+ points right now lol. Its hard to score with other people when your attached to a particular player. And while Crosby IS Crosby, we cant pretend that Guentzel isnt also contributing to Crosby's point totals.

Also Crosby isnt even top 10 in scoring. So how about Monahan vs Drouin?

Monahan has 37/40 of his even strength points with Gaudreau on the ice.

"Drouin is better than Guentzel because Guentzel plays with good linemates"

Tremendous sample size you've got going on there.

Why not look at how many of Guentzel's goals are actually assisted on by Crosby instead? For instance, Guentzel had 5 goals the past two games. Crosby had a whopping 2 assists on them.

This notion that Guentzel is a product of Crosby needs to die. Either that or people need to actually watch the Pens to see what Guentzel brings rather than just make assumptions because he plays with Crosby.

Guentzel is probably better at everything besides straightline speed. Just a smarter player.
