Doughty had more 1st place votes last year and was just left off the ballot by multiple people. This year he doubled Karlsson in 1st place votes. Clearly doing something right and well deserved.

Expected a tight vote between Doughty and Karlsson. Surprised by the disparity in 1st place votes

Just too many intangibles for Doughty, to give the award to the guy with more tangibles.

Karlsson deserved this. He was simply the better d-man this season.

Other than points Doughty had the better season hands down. As much a points factor in there are so many other factors to consider. Don't forget we are judging defenseman

It was decided before the season. Canadian media went on a crusade to get him a win. Their entire argument continuously was he's due. And really when that's the arguement of the people who vote for the award nothing was gonna change their mind. Not even breaking records and doing things not done in decades.

Exactly.

But this win does give merit to the completely arbitrary threshold of 50 points or more for a Norris winner. Chara's 50 points were the lowest since Langway. Doughty finally gets back over that with 51 and wins. He was just as capable and deserving last year.

Not really surprising since Erik missed the playoffs and really picked it up halfway through the season. Vital Karlsson makes the playoffs next year to win his third Norris.

Congrats to Drew, he played insanely well in his own end this year.

He did not deserve the 2015 trophy, imo.

He very much had a better case this year.

Either EK or Drew would have been a great choice, glad the media recognized how stellar of a season he actually had, and good of folks who can acknowledge more than points to recognize a phenomenal year.

Even as a Habs fan I must say Karlsson got robbed. How do you put up 82pts and lose even with average defense

You answered your own question.

That's like saying that an average forward-offensively-is the best forward in the NHL because they're the best defensively.

Best defenseman in the NHL. The right guy finally wins it. And crushes Karlsson in first place votes
