I know it’s unlikely either are traded, let alone both. For fun though, the Flyers could fit them in if the Kings took some salary back and would be able to offer a huge package of picks/prospects to LA.
Flyers receive:
Anze Kopitar
Drew Doughty
Kings Recieve:
Morgan Frost(2016 1st; Potential top 6 C)
Joel Farabee(2018 1st; Potential top 6 W)
Phil Myers(Almost NHL ready; potential top 4 RHD)
Isaac Ratcliffe(2016 2nd; Potential top 9 W)
Felix Sandstrom(NHL upside G)
2019 1st
2019 2nd
2020 1st
2020 2nd
Radko Gudas(Up after next year)
Andrew MacDonald(Up after next year)
Jori Lehterä(Up this year)
————————
Kings deal two legends from their franchise but receive 9 pieces towards a rebuild. There’s plenty of high end potential amongst those prospects as well. Gudas could also be shipped at this year or next year’s deadline for some draft picks.
If the Kings were to sell off other vets and draft in the top 5-10 for 2019/2020, they’d quickly bounce back in that Pacific Division.
This is clearly a win now move for the Flyers, but they’d have an elite roster in tact for the foreseeable future. Add a competitive goalie along with Hart next year and they’re ready to win immediately. Yes, a coaching change as well.
The Flyers system certainly takes a big hit now and over the next 2 years, but they’d still have some quality prospects in the organization in O’Brien, Allison, Vorobyev, Rubstov, etc.
JVR-Kopitar-Voracek
Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
Lindblom-Patrick-Simmonds
Sanheim-Doughty
Provorov-Ghost
Hart
That core would be in place for the next 4 playoff runs at a minimum outside of Simmonds. It’d be wise to move now for help later on.
