Brainstorm how the lineup should look. Contact the players. Emergency plan if someone gets injured. Pick the coaches, assistants etc

Its not like one guy can do it all. It takes work.

This + they have to put a team together while also working their normal jobs.

Armstrong was the easy and predictable choice since Yzerman retired from the job. Good for him.

Possibly dumb question, why are so many associate/assistant GMs needed?
When your pool of players starts with say 25 of the 40 best players in the world, it's really hard to pick a roster.

The better answer: it's a chance for lots of people to claim they were part of the team's success if it results in a gold medal, people can claim "I was on the team and had ideas and no one listened to me - put me in charge next time" if it results in anything other than a gold medal.
