Does Sid Surpass Mario with a 3rd Cup?

Mario obviously has a big edge in PPG and points. International is close. But arguably the best part of Mario's career was back to back cups and back to back smythes. His stats during those runs were legendary.

Suppose Crosby is to win a 3rd cup and perhaps add a smythe. Would that mean that Sid surpasses Mario's legacy both as a Penguin, and in the NHL? Just one, or neither?

Would Sid at least be viewed as the more accomplished Penguin? Or do Mario's cups as an owner also count?

What are the thoughts of neutral fans and Pens fans also?

Why? Lemieux has 2 cups with the likes of Jagr, Francis, Tocchet, etc.

There is an argument that he would have accomplished more with what he had unless you see Sid's teams as much more superior in a team sense.

Are the teams close? Or is one much better?

Not close. He can never surpass Mario's legacy. Mario rescued the team by buying it. Plus he is a far better player.

If somehow Crosby is still elite at 40 years old and gets to 2000 points. Basically has as good of a back half if his career but no more injuries... only then does he get to be tied with Mario. It is very unlikely.

Mario's peak was massively higher than Crosby's. Even with injuries and missing seasons he still has 6 Art Ross trophies and 10 one hundred point seasons.

Sid is a great player but Mario is a legend not even close. Crosby has never dominated like Mario did nor will he ever.
