Does falling 1 goal short of 70 hurt Matthews' chances for the Hart?

We were hearing all season long that if he did score 70 goals, then he would be in serious contention for the MVP. He merely fell a goal short so it really changes nothing, but Hart voters love their storylines. Still, this is the best goal-scoring season since Lemieux, so this has to count for something.

Or it wouldn't have made a difference?

No. Even if he scored 70 he wouldn't have won it. Scoring one less than 70 seems kind of silly to complete diminish his chances. The same way I thought it was silly to think him scoring 70 guaranteed him the trophy.
