Speculation: Does Calgary go after Spencer Knight at the draft

I really hope we pass on drafting goalies in the first two rounds. Scouting them is an exercise in futility. We drafted three goaltenders in the top 90 and they are all worse than the two undrafted free agents we signed.

He might fix the goaltending problems 2-3 years down the road. What's Calgary going to do in the meantime ?

Here is a list of the goaltenders we drafted in the first two rounds in the last 25 years:

All have washed out or are not trending to even be NHL backups at this point for a 0% success rate. We suck at drafting goalies. We've also had better success late drafting guys like McBackup, Brossoit and Anderson.

We've hit on every top 90 pick we've had the last 4 years that wasn't a goaltender. (Andersson, Kylington, Tkachuk, Dube, Fox and Valimaki)

In terms of team needs, they should probably go another route considering they’ve got pretty good depth in the system. With that said, they’ve shown they aren’t afraid to take another stab with an early pick given the guys in the system (Gillies, Parsons, McDonald taken with two 2nds and a 3rd).

I think the kid is one of the better goalie prospects to come around in a few years. Wouldn’t shock me if he goes before Calgary even gets the chance.
