Once he became available, there was not another option.

if they wanted a bad coach. Agreed. Had 3 HoFers in 08. Look at his post-08 playoff record, including talented Clippers. Sad. Embiid will never win a ring in Philly. Tanking for draft picks builds a losing culture that doesn't win rings.

Trades and free agency are different story.

They weren't tanking anymore by the time Embiid got on the floor.

? Embiid not playing the first 2+ seasons is irrelevant and proves my point. They're a poorly constructed team with bad contracts and bad chemistry (every expert I've seen says Embiid/Simmons doesn't work), their oft injured best player has averaged only half a season per year for his 5 year career, and they just hired a bad coach.

It’s not irrelevant, he was injured for 2 years. He never played a game while Hinkie was the GM

I don’t disagree that the team is poorly constructed, but they needed a coach with credibility because the organization doesn’t have any. Now when this fails they know it will fail and there aren’t any questions or excuses.

We're talking about a franchise, not a GM. A franchise that has not drafted well. Embiid has only played 209 games in 5 seasons. Simmons missed his first season due to injury, didn't have a good jumper when he was drafted which is key in today's inside out NBA, he refuses to shoot the 3 which you need when you have a dominant big man, and he has only 24 three point attempts in three seasons! They don't have a go to shooter in the last 2 minutes since they lost Butler. Al Horford and Tobias Harris have huge contracts that their skills don't equal.

The Doc Rivers Clippers had one of the most talented and regular season winning teams in the entire league and they never even went to the Conference Finals. He's a bad coach.

Is Ty Lue a good coach even though he is not really on the radar of any vacancies? He did win a chip.

Now we know they will fail due to their coach.

He won a chip basically sharing coaching duties with Bron Bron. Its going to be hard to judge him as a coach until he coaches a new team, but I do recall there being a lot of praise about him when he was a Boston and then Clippers assistant.
