Did the Oilers make the right draft picks in the last 5 years?

All of their first round picks were good except for in 2012. Should have picked Murray instead of Yakupov.

Ya, I was fine with us taking Murray, but to suggest that Yakupov wasn't the "right" pick at the time is crazy. He was as much of a consensus as a #1 pick as it gets. He's struggles because of how he reads the game, so it might take time, but he's just too talented and driven. I still think he ends up better than Galchenyuk

Yea. Yakupov might not end up the best player in his draft but if the Oilers had taken anyone else (without trading down) they would have gotten completely eviscerated, and rightfully so

That +/- isn't that good considering how much better CBJ did as a team.

And I don't get why bringing up team accomplishments has anything to do with this comparison of individual players
That +3 is very good, it's not like everyone else on the team is above +10. The whole team combined is +17 at a quick glance and RJ played the most minutes of any fwd. Had 11 more goals than anyone else.

That team accomplishment definitely isn't all on him, but he's one of the main components of that.

Keep in mind this isn't all proof that he's better than Hall, just that he belongs in the discussion. Hall was 4th in the league in es points behind Crosby and Getzlaf/Perry. 7th in overall points, one point ahead of Ovy and he played 3 less games than Ovy did. He was +20 ahead of Ovy as well lol.

I like Taylor Hall a lot, but I think the team would be better if we had Seguin and Landeskog is all.

I don't think Seguin would've handled the scrutiny of being picked no.1 overall too well.

I don't think he takes that well to pressure (see his playoff performances) either, being in Edmonton and having to deal with the intense media scrutiny here while likely watching Taylor Hall go win a Cup in Boston would've hurt his development.

The fact is Seguin/Landeskog aren't leading this group to the playoffs either ... not with that blue line and Devan Dubnyk in net. I'm not even sure the Oilers would make the playoffs even with Crosby in/RNH out. Too thin on the back end still and the goaltending changes happened too late.
