Didn’t Babcock say there would be a lot of years of pain for this team? And in the 2nd and 3rd season they went to the playoffs. They are young and exciting. Need to fill in a few more holes and they will be a contending team. Time and patience is what this team needs.

Time for the players in the system to mature, time for their values to appreciate, time for the system to build up and get deeper, time for holes to be evaluated and remedied.

Well, that didn’t take long,, does an argument have to break out in every thread? Come on folks, consider this thread is Switzerland. :thumbu:

Which one is it?

Major changes as in talent is not everything. There needs to be a major injection of heart into the team. Almost no one looked like they wanted to be there. The defense needs to be reworked completely. Babs needs to stop over playing Andersen and start playing his stars when it matters. These are major changes and do not make my point hypocritical. We have the talent, but the heart was missing.

Every way. Good offence, lethargic players, **** defence, rely on goaltending too much.

So, basically, only in the most general ways possible?

Who on that team compares to Matthews? Marner? Nylander? Hell, even Marleau? If anything, the difference was that defense was better than our current one (for all the crap they took, I'd take 2013's Phaneuf, Franson, Liles, and Gunnarsson over our current group purely on talent). Our offense was massively inferior. Outside of Kessel, who never was good enough to carry an offense in the playoffs, and the MacArthur-Grabovsky-Kulemin line, which anyone could tell was playing way over its head, the offense was a massive black hole. Marner, Matthews and Nylander are already significantly better than anyone on that team and they're up to 10 years younger than our core forwards were in 2013. In other words, this year's team is only going to get better next year, while anyone could see our aging team in 2013 was ready to go on a downward trend.
