not only did butcher fill a need (offense, specifically from the back end as well as powerplay competency) but we could've sold him for a nice return to a playoff team needing a powerplay specialist who could play sheltered minutes.

there's no way you leave someone who has value sitting for weeks on end. it was poor asset management plain and simple.

This year? No one would give up assets to take that contract this year. Who wants a PP specialist who couldn’t score on a PP last year at all? He had one PP assist last year. And he has two this year.

And besides, it's not about who is more valuable. It's about who is (or rather should be) considered part of the core which is the whole conversation.

NJDevs26 asked me where the line is drawn there and I literally created that line where those above it are the "Core" players.

Mind you this is MY OPINION.

So Hersheybob, if you feel the need to tell me I'm wrong, by all means do so but know that it won't change whom I think are the Core and who aren't.


hell, you can create your own line where Mcleod, Bastian, and a bunch of scrubs are your Core if you want.

I know people don't like him because he hasn't produced this season, but why not hope he regains his 40 point form?

I think he will probably bounce back at least to some extent next year. His shooting percentage is well below his career average (by almost half), so it's likely that bounces back and he scores a few more goals. I'm not sure about 40 points, but I could see 30-35. Which is not amazing, but it's not like he has a boat anchor contract that we absolutely need to get rid of either.
