That's Gaudreau's nickname. No idea why.
I remember he was really good early on. It might not have been the first year or two of the shootout, but late last decade. Him, Parise and Zajac, were all really good in the shootout at one point. Parise might still be, I don't know if his shootout ability has dropped off, but he was over 50% for a lot of his career.Reminds me of when Langenbrunner had that one season where he used the same exact shootout move everytime and scored which really inflated his percentage. Then the following seasons they kept using him over and over again even though goalies had already figured him out.
I'd prefer never having to see EITHER player play another game for this team, actually.
I remember the one season we broke the record for most shootout wins with Kovy and Parise. It was an automatic goal from those 2 everytime. It almost never got to Patty in the 3rd spot.I remember he was really good early on. It might not have been the first year or two of the shootout, but late last decade. Zajac was in the 30's for shootout conversion rate at one point, though he didn't have a whole lot of opportunities. At this point, I don't think he's got a shootout goal since the recent lockout season, and I feel like he hasn't been used in one since DeBoer was still here. He might have had an opportunity under the Hydra staff in 2015, but I can't remember him going in the Hynes era.
I do wonder why we lead off with Hall so much, but it's not a big deal. The shootout is so random that I've given up being upset over who the coach uses. As long as it's not something as monumentally stupid as trotting Henrique and his 2 career SO goals out there, I don't really care. If we couldn't win the game in 65 minutes, we probably didn't deserve to get 2 points anyway.
Man, they were scoring so much, I remember getting mad at Parise when he actually went 4 or 5 in a row without scoring one. After scoring in all but one before that during that year.I remember the one season we broke the record for most shootout wins with Kovy and Parise. It was an automatic goal from those 2 everytime. Gaudreau is okay but having that nickname doesn't really at all fit him.
In OT, I felt there was too much skating around and not enough shooting the puck at the net. Plus, Hall really should've tried dishing it off to Bratt who was at the doorstep in the closing seconds of OT.
Most overtime’s are like this now. Teams have adjusted and realized it’s better to just play keep away vs. trying to force plays that aren’t there. It’s pretty lousy.
I really think the league needs to reconsider the overtime / shootout format. It really cheapens the sport imho. Go back to ties and at least try to settle the game playing something that at least resembles the sport.
LOL I'm picturing Happy Gilmore destroying the clown on the mini golf course, when Carl Weathers is trying to teach him how to golf and it spits the golf ball back at him after he gets it inside the the clown's mouth haha.Only thing the NHL could do to bastardize hockey more at this point is put windmills and clowns on the ice in OT .

I don't really like the 3v3 overtime, it's too gimmicky (although so is the shootout).
I'd rather see 10 minutes of 4v4 before the shootout, the quality of overtime hockey was significantly better 4v4. There's just too much open ice in 3v3, it's forcing players to err too much on the side of caution and making it less exciting as a result.
4v4 was great, enough open ice to let skilled players shine but not enough to reduce things to disjointed chaos like we have currently. My only issue with 4v4 OT was that 5 minutes wasn't enough to reach a conclusion most of the time, 10 minutes 4v4 would have been a much better solution to avoiding as many shootouts without compromising the quality of play. 4v4 leads to more chances than 5v5, but it's structured enough that it feels like the winning team 'earned' their extra point. Right now having both 3v3 & the shootout makes everything past regulation feel overly gimmicky.
