I thought we struggled to get scoring chances all night. I can't think of many, outside of the two goals and Hall going wide before he scored. Prout had a good chance in a prime scoring area in the 2nd, but it's Dalton Prout.

The Caps played a tight defensive game, and while they may not be as good on paper, I've said that their defense got better by purging that anchor Karl Alzner.

how amazing would it be if we nabbed carlson from them this offseason? i know im getting ahaead of the game but that would be amazing. time for us to get someone to come home.

I think PavelSUCK (copyright BleedRed) will start tomorrow. Not sure.
Then somebody change the QUEEN to PAVELSUCKOmeter then...
I wonder if we'll see the PavelSUCK tomorrow?

When a team is struggling early and a coach is coaching for his job, he tends to stick with the starter, sometimes over-playing him. Which we saw with Pete back in 14-15 and playing Cory 20 times to start the season. So I wouldn't be surprised if AV is going back to Hank.

AV wouldn't appear to be on the hot seat, but a bad start could lead to a coaching change. He's been there longer than all but 2 other current head coaches in the league.

If Hank plays tomorrow, then we could finally witness the first ever PARTY LIKE IT'S 1999 moment when he gives up 7 goals. ;)

But seriously, i just want a win to get back on the winning track.

Hi, everybody, I'm back from the game, and thought I'd share a few thoughts from my live experience:

1) The Devils struggled with zone entries all night. The Caps were very effective at negating the Devils' speed and passing by clogging up the neutral zone. The Devils are going to have to figure out ways of getting around such tactics in the future.

2) Devils took too many stupid or sloppy penalties like catching the puck and high-sticking. Those are the lapses that can kill you against the Caps in particular with their lethal snipers.

3) Devils didn't create too many opportunities on their own power play chances. Again, entering the offensive zone was a major challenge even with the man advantage.

4) I liked what I saw from Bratt. His hockey IQ and skill were on display. I just wish he had a bit more size. There were times that he was easily knocked off the puck, and since he is so tiny, you do wonder how his body will withstand a full NHL season. Still, he is obviously smart and talented. Highway robbery to get a player who looks like he can contribute the way Bratt does with a sixth round pick.

5) Nice to see Palms and Hall light the lamp. The arena got pumped for each of their goals.

6) Okay, to talk about the elephant in the room that I literally had to fight to keep my eyes off at times, the new Jumbotron in my opinion is too big. The new screens are very high quality, but I can't help wishing they kept the old size and put in the new screens. All the white on the new screens creates a luminescence that kind of hurt my eyes, and the sheer size of it was distracting. I would be reluctant to buy tickets in the upper bowl, personally, since I would feel like I was paying forty plus dollars to watch a game on the screen at the arena when I could stay home and not wait on line for the bathroom. I used to tell people that there were no truly bad seats in the Prudential Center, but with the new Jumbotron, I would hesitate to recommend the upper bowl seating, as I think the screens would interfere with viewing the rink. All of this is my personal perspective, of course, and I'm sure some will love the scale of the new Jumbotron, but I wanted to warn others that it might be too large for them, as it was for me. I find it overwhelming and not in a good way.

Anyway, fun night even if the arena wasn't packed. Wish I could've seen a win though:D

Well, just got home, and that game went about as I expected, which is to say, poorly.

Score of the game should have been about 8-2. All I'm hoping is that tonight was as BAD as they're capable of playing. If this is as bad as it gets, I'm okay.

Home opener I was mezz, tonight I was lower bowl, so I'm not sure I understand. You're saying that in the Upper Level your more inclined to watch the game on the scoreboard than on the ice? I didnt find it a problem when I sat in the mezz.

has anyone sat in the last row? looks like it would obscure your view if you were sitting end ice.

Didn't get to see too much of the game, it was that bad? That sucks, but this team is young and will have some growing pains. Regroup and take it to them tomorrow.

I have no issues with the scoreboard either, I absolutely love it, they even made the penalty kill clock bigger too which I had seen a lot of complaints about.

I was in the lower bowl, but I thought the screen was too big, and I can only imagine it would be more in my way if I had been sitting father up, staring directly at it, but I haven't sat in the upper bowl yet, so I couldn't say for sure. This does make me more reluctant to purchase cheap upper bowl tickets, however. It is just my personal perspective, though. Others might not find the new Jumbotron to be an issue, and others might find it to be an improvement. My thought on it, though, is that I am not a fan of it. It interfered with my viewing experience.

I noticed it more in the mezz than I did LL. I was in 17 tonight, which is LL flush with the net, and I didnt really notice the scoreboard at all unless I wanted to.

I had the same view Opening night, but from mezz, and I did notice it more being higher up. It was a little distracting at first, but I got used to it by the end of the game.

Thanks for your thoughts. With the new Jumbotron, I think I'll just have to experiment to find out which seats work best for me. It might be a case of the lower the better for me.

dont do it. everyone knows the true fans sit up top ;)

Ha ha. I do like the upper bowl being more affordable and having a bit more energy/atmosphere, though with the lower bowl you get to see hockey up close and personal. It is a magical experience being able to watch NHL players from such a short distance. That's the way I can best appreciate their skill.

Thought the team was a little sluggish, and when they were flying the puck would not settle for them and their passes were way off. Put it in the rear view mirror and look forward to tomorrow.

Also, John Moore blows. He is great in the offensive zone but man oh man he stinks in his own end. Shame, he'd be a soli player if he was AVERAGE defensively.

I really believe that if the Devils stayed out of the box, they would've had a shot at AT THE VERY LEAST....tie the game late since they were down 3-2.

Zone entries were a chore, I agree but even with that, the Devils still hung around.

Ultimately it was penalties that did them in.

Just got home - takeaways from the game.

They needed to be handed a loss like this. Really. This looked more like last season than the first 3 games so far.

Giveaways and penalties vs Ovechkin-Oshie-Backstrom bad.

John Moore sucks.

Pavel Zacha needs to bring pre-season form to the regular season. And please hit the open net, not the face of an opponent. Definitely a game he will want to forget.

Blake Coleman had better have earned the respect of the team. Which leads to the obvious ...

Tom Wilson is a(n) fill in the blank. There are too many too list.

A win is needed tomorrow night. Tampa on Tuesday could be a redux of tonight.

Did I mention John Moore sucks?

Yeah, it was really the penalties (and too many of them were careless or sloppy ones) that killed the Devils. Zone entries were a struggle but weren't a death knell. I do like that the team is playing with more passion than last year, but I would be happy to see them show a bit more discipline when it comes to taking penalties.
