There’s no post limit to threads any more but I suspect some people would hate a 2000 post thread even more than a 1Kish one

The locking and creating of new threads is one of the sillier things that happens on here, especially when a new thread isn't created. How about a weekly thread?

I do find it somewhat funny that much of the board has turned against Bahl whereas most of the board was Bahl > Siegenthaler last year

Siegenthaler PDO (S% + SV% while on ice) last year for NJD: 860
Bahl PDO this season: 901
Bahl PDO last season: 1004

It takes about that long for you guys to go through 1K posts anyway judging by the last one lol. Before the latest migration/whatever the 1K limit was a requirement for bandwidth purposes, it’s only recently that got lifted.

We might just stick with one thread for the offseason and see if the super mega thread gets much pushback then, only locking it on FA day probably. If it doesn’t maybe we can do monthly threads next season.

People making really dumb extrapolations from small sample sizes at the end of the weird COVID season doesn't surprise me at all.

tbh Siegenthaler has been not that great the past few weeks. But he has been dynamite for almost the entire season and Bahl looks nowhere close to being NHL ready.

Still waiting on that teased Bratt signing…
I never really got the assumption that Bratt and his agent meeting at a Paneras or wherever was some indicator they were close to an extension, unless ‘Devils insiders’ is actually an insider source and knows something else beyond a random photo without context. They could have been discussing an endorsement deal in Sweden for all we know.

I’m sure Aaron Judge and his agent had random meets too over the last couple weeks and that didn’t exactly pan out.

Well they were definitely alluding to something happening soon and making it public. So as a fan you can’t be blamed for naturally assuming him signing a new contract and not… oh boy, Jesper is the new face of Tough Boy jockstraps!

I see Fitz "going for broke" this off season. New Goalies, new coaching staff, it's "do or die".
If we can't at least battle for a playoff spot next year his job is toast.
I wouldn't count on Bernier coming back and Blackwood could even be in play.
That top pick will be dangled in front of rebuilding teams.
I'm thinking Winnipeg as a possible trade partner.

Fitz has been our GM for 2 years, his job is not in limbo at all and it shouldn’t be after the deal he gave to Hughes. Having our 2 starters die on us a month into the season was not part of the plan and there’s very little he could’ve done to make things right.

The amount of panic that’s been going around this past week about trading a top #5 pick for goaltender is absurd and if Fitz actually does that, then yes, he should be fired because it’s a fireable offence.

The conversation is happening in an old GDT that should be locked soon so I will reply to it here…

I think trading a top 10, let alone top 5 pick for a goalie is absolute madness.
Yet I think you’d trade Zacha for Vasilevsky (or heck, Jarry) in a heartbeat.

It’s all about the specific deal. I don’t think we can make absolute proclamations at this point.

You could make the argument trading a top five for Spencer Knight since he was a high pick himself and playing in the NHL now. Anyone else it would be dicey, there’s no apparent latter-day Cory trade out there. Fitz is gonna have to earn his money this offseason.

I don't envy Fitz for having to deal with this goalie issue, I honestly don't even know what could be done. I think we need a legit starter, but those seldom get moved and those that may be available likely have similar consistency concerns as Blackwood.

Really curious to see how he handles it

Oh, I am a never say never guy but a Zacha for Vasy deal never happens. It’s trade our top 5 pick for someone’s expensive goalie that they want to get rid of for some reason and this is all happening because people are freaking out over Blackwood, Crawford, Bernier and the rest imploding the past few seasons. Personally I would prefer a top forward or defensemen prospect than a highly paid 28 year old goalie.

The other problem with trading for a goalie that people aren't quite putting together is that it isn't about value as such. Yeah, the 5th pick for Knight is an overpay, but also Florida may have no interest in doing that because their window is now, and having Knight around as a theoretical low-cost option for 3 more seasons (after bridging him) is much more favorable than a 5th overall pick. It's much more difficult to replace goalies because they take the longest to develop and have the most challenging development path, and of course as we learned this season, it's extremely difficult to acquire goaltendng midseason.

The Schneider trade was extremely unusual. The other goalies involved in 1st round pick draft day trades were Martin Jones and Frederik Andersen. Antti Raanta was also included in a pick trade but he was not likely the most valuable thing in the deal.

Yeah there's maybe 5 guys FItz would be ok trading the 1st for and their respective GMs will all say no. But I would be shocked if FItz didn't shop the 2nd rounder to see who's the best G he can get for it is, and there may be a deal there.

The way every goalie has become worse once joining the Devils, I wouldn't be surprised if they traded the pick for Knight just to see him become a JAG. This team bleeds giveaways in crucial moments, in their on own. The issue isn't just having bad goalies. Coaching staff needs a total overhaul and we need better dmen, at least a guy that can play big minutes and isn't a total liability defensively.

Also, they are soft as hell in the boards, trying to exit their own end. Especially the 1st and 2rd lines.
