Why would you retire in the middle of the contract? Get paid out for it and then go from there... It's a monetary decision for him IMHO.

If he retires, he doesn't get paid (just like Pronger and Marc Savard) - being on the roster on LTIR, their contracts are being paid by Insurance and the team can exceed the cap by their contract amount.

Team and Player both win - Insurance company loses...

If it was the mumps they would have just came out and said it, plus he played less than a night ago so unless he went and got tested within the last day or so (which isn't it too quick for the results to have come back), I'd be surprised if it was the mumps

Also would be somewhat surprised if he was moved because I feel as if we'd have heard some more surrounding it

My guess is it could be a family related issue or maybe he's a little dinged up
