Not suprising. He didn't think we did much wrong yesterday. He has a complacent attitude and it's going to (if it hasn't already) rub off on the players.

Usually he hasn't been afraid to call out a bad performance. That's why I'm appalled that he called yesterday's 1st period a good road period. And that he acted like this was a decent effort.

Do you ever get the feeling that he focuses more on Gionta and his "effort" and thus it colors his opinion on the entire team? You know....Gionta brought the Grit so the Entire team brought the grit.

Gionta played hard so the Entire team played hard.

Gionta had a good road 1st period so the Entire team had a good road first period.

You understand what I'm saying, right?

But even that makes no sense because even by Gio's low standards he played a bad game. Actually one of his worst all year.

So even by that metric the team was still really bad.

Sometimes there IS no rational way to make sense out of something. The fact that Pete would think there was anything good that came out of a first period where we had four shots on goal and took two penalties is not even worth trying to analyze what the heck Pete was thinking. There is no rational explanation, period.

Maybe Pete just didn't want to be negative that night for some reason. :dunno:

Well he didn't say tough building once last night, so maybe he just couldn't think of anything else to say other than that crap about a good road period?

I mean between the good road period last night and canceling practice today he is in full coddling mode. Maybe he's starting to worry about losing the room and is scaling back on criticism?

We are the oldest team in the league and are about to play a back to back. That might have something to do with it. Am I using too much logic? Seems like logic is not allowed when we talk about Deboer on here, so I'm confused.

Like trying to explain why Josefson got bumped out of the lineup despite consistently being one of the teams top 4 or 5 players (or better). No rational explanation.

yeah, that one got to me too.

I'm fine with the assertion that using 'logic' in a discussion about PDB on this board is pretty much like sunlight to a vampire -

but I think that a good percentage of his decisions are pretty good ones.

Other than the JJ yo-yo (and playing Bernier in his stead yeesh) I can rationalize most of his decisions.

I might not agree with them, but they make some sense.

I actually like a lot of what Deboer does. It's just that the things I don't like are so mind bogglingly stupid that it makes me look past the good things he does as a coach.

Seems Pete's not getting as much support around here as he used to. Some fascinating decisions by the master tactician this year, Clowe and Zubs paired in OT was certainly interesting. Some of these lineup decisions have been annoying.

His PC's are frustrating but I think he's the type of coach that doesn't call out guys in the media. As much as I'd like to see it I can understand and respect it. He does appear to be clearly frustrated during them in a deer in a headlights, defeated, Charlie Brown type of way lol.

Hard to tell if he's clueless about what to do, is frustrated that the players aren't sticking to the system/game plan or is silently crying out for Lou to get him some better players. Probably a combination of all three.

Is there a Pete thread anymore or is that off limits these days?

They have one game in five days then two more days off after the back-to-back. This isn't really the most strenuous part of the schedule, that comes after Thanksgiving.

And yeah they were going to get one of the two days off regardless, I just don't get why you take today off then practice right smack before the back to back instead of practice then day off before the back to back.
