Curious what people think IS acceptable for Larsson at this point in his career.

Not vague blanket statements like "top pairing guy" or whatever, give me some stat lines. I want to know what people think is a good place for a 21 year old defenseman to be at.

75 g 6 g 27 a 33 pts +10 19 Minutes a game.

what I think he'll get if healthy...

75 G 3 G 10 A 13 PTS -5 14 Minutes a game.

The kid is going to make some mistakes. Let him play through them without getting benched. We're not, or shouldn't be, losing games based on one players mistakes.

Larsson had a VERY bad first week last year. Other than that, he was very good in his own end until the injury. My problem with him was he didnt do diddly in the AHL.

Then again, neither did Gelinas.

Top 4. Dependable 18 minutes a night throughout a full season - Contributing on either one of the PK or PP regularly... That is a bare minimum for a 21 year old #4 overall.

Take a look at the top dmen drafted in Larssons year, prior and next years. Is his development that far off? You could argue he's right where he should be....

2011: Dougie Hamilton at #9 and Jonas Brodin at #10
2010: Eric Gudbranson at #3 and Dylan Mcilwrath at #10.
2012: Ryan Murray #2, Griffin Reinhart drafted #4 and Morgan Reilly at #5.

2011
Larsson: NHL TOTALS 128 3 24 27
Hamilton: NHL TOTALS 106 12 29 41
Brodin: NHL TOTALS 124 10 20 30

2012
Murray: NHL TOTALS 66 4 17 21
Reinhardt: NO NHL GAMES
Reilly: NHL Totals 73 2 25 27

2010
Gudbranson: NHL Totals 169 5 16 21
Mcilwrath: NHL Totals 2 0 0 0

Pietrangelo (#4) would have been consider a bust here since he played a couple season extra seasons in the OHL before he made the team.

Larsson looked sharp last night up until the misplay of the pass on the Krieder goal.
I thought he looked confident and he likes playing with Gelinas.

But, Brodin, Maata and Hamilton are levels above him at this point and that's probably not going to change at anytime.

2012's are borderline 21 right now... Many of them haven't turned 21 yet...Murray hasn't, Reinhardt is a 1994 birth year so he just turn 20 in January and Lidndholm at #6 is ahead of Larsson. Far a head of Larsson.

You can argue Ryan Murray is ahead of Larsson also He just completed his rookie year playing 66 games with ATOI of 19:52 -- But in the playoffs he took on an expanded role for Columbus playing 22:44...Impressive for a rookie.

2011 Hamilton is way beyond Larsson. Brodin averaged 23:54 this season in 79 games.

Gudbanson was a bad pick and hasn't lived up to his draft status... and McIlrath at #10 was even worse...He has bust written all over him.

All of these players are ahead of Larsson except the last two and they are terrible picks...In 2010 there are 3 or 4 Dmen better than the two you named...Jon Merrill is better than McIlrath will ever be, so is Faulk and Fowler...That is just a poor pick (McIlrath).

AP first year he started 8 games in the NHL in 2008-09 and went back to the OHL to play 48 games in the OHL.

Larsson first played 70 games in the NHL.

AP second year he started 9 games in the NHL in 2009-10 and went back to the OHL to play 42 games in the OHL.

People on the board would call him a bust. Especially since Doughty, Bogosian, Schenn, Myers, and Karlsson were all NHL ready.

Nobody is calling Larsson a bust and your comparison is silly. The Blues took their time with Pietrangelo which the Devils probably should have done with Larsson.

Oh my the Blues were able to survive a tragic schedule change and STILL have camp open to the public!!!!!!!!!! But Lou it's so hard!!!!!!!!

And I'm not going to kill him for it. It was a mistake but not the end of the world especially with the huge difference in speed there (mistakes will happen) and overall he looked improved. He just needs to keep playing.

Him and Gelly were a good pairing last night.

Larsson's problem is he gets too down on himself and lets it negatively affect his play

It's a bunch of baloney excuses, bottom line is Lou wants practices/scrimmages closed.

You will see them opened up when Lou is no longer in the organization.

the problem with Larsson is he still isn't a very good skater, he has a lot of trouble skating backwards.

Why were practices never closed at South Mountain? I don't doubt it's a Lou decision to have practices closed now, I just don't get why it never happened then.

Per TG it sounds like Cory will start Thursday, and will start the final two preseason games to get warmed up for the season.

More guys are joining in in the Jagr training camp. Zubs, Ruutu, Clowe, Greene, JJ, Zajac and Henrique all doing his wacky training stuff.

Clowe practiced on a line with Henrique and Ryder. Ruutu-JJ-Brunner was also a line. No Merrill today.
