The current issue with Bernier is not that Pete played him in places he shouldn't have last season because he stunk. The real issue is that Lou would sign him this season for whatever price. Lou has lost it. The same applies to S. Gionta. Pete probably influenced Lou while Lou knows that Pete is on his last leg and probably out the door this season. Lou is doing whatever he can to appease everyone because his job is on the line.
I don't think Lou's job is on the line. I think Lou is very much safe.

Don't you think the owners have had enough? missing the playoffs 3 out of 4 years with a previous history of continued success. Every thing they bought is doing well, financially, except the Devils Hockey team. Who did they leave in charge? You guess it. Lou!
You can only ride the past just so long. Eventually it turns into 'what are you doing for me today"

Everything they bought is doing well? Like the 76ers?

The owners have been here for all of a year, and no.

The NBA is horse of a different color and I was only speaking about the NJ Devils arena and other businesses associated with the Devils . They are killing it except with the hockey team.

They are 4th liners..... Jesus

There is a group of 6-7 guys here that enjoy loathing this line. I've given up trying to slap some sense into them.

I personally would like to see if these guys can do what they did in the playoffs again. Most 4th liners don't have much of an impact during the regular season. But the good 4th liners can almost double their pt production when they get to the playoffs. That line basically did that in 2012. They haven't been able to get back to the playoffs, and they sure as hell weren't the reason they missed.

Its also not like Lou is committing long term to these guys. I think he'd also like to see if this line is capable of raising their game in the playoffs again. If they don't, getting them off the team won't be too difficult.

If we are, it'll be because he's in his 70s and retiring, not because he was fired.

They would never fire him, it would be an internal forced retirement with him knowing that if you don't retire immediately, you will be fired.
He will retire immediately to save face for him and his family.

For Harris and Company this is a business, one that doesn't look silly, is the laughing stock of the NHL, bottom of the barrel or loses money.

Did you follow the conversation? Yes.

I certainly followed the conversation and I certainly disagree with your ASSUMPTIONS in what will be an INTERNAL MATTER that none of us will ever be privy to.

Lou, IMO(see the word "OPINION" like yours), won't get fired after this year should the Devils miss the playoffs....However, he will most certainly be on the hot seat.

He won't be forced out this year. 2016 is definitely a possibility. He's playing with serious fire with this older team. It could work in the short-term or backfire spectacularly.

Sorry to further derail this thread but in no way, shape or form is Lou going to be fired by these guys. They made it abundantly clear that Lou is in charge of hockey operations and rightfully so.

They are in it for the arena, sure they'd like a winning team but they wont do anything regarding management of it. Have you seen that dumpster fire going on in Philly?

If he isnt forced into rolls he isnt able to succeed in like 2nd line time and powerplay time, he shouldnt be too bad. Thats just my opinion though. If hes playing any more than 8 or 9 mins hes toast.

well it all boils down to Pete....lil Gio, Bernier and Harrold all have their place on this team....it's just that Pete likes those guys and plays them more than he should

He did play them at times more than they probably should have been out there for, but nobody else was generating offense during those times as well so he had to try something

People would be criticizing him if he kept playing other guys in top roles who weren't doing anything either so it's a one way street silly criticism

hot seat = "you better make the playoffs or you're history, Lou"

forced to retire = "would be best if you stepped down, Lou"

If you go back I started this conversation with if the team fails this season. We are on the same page. You just said the same thing. Enough

Agree not in the 2014/15 season but before the 2015/16 season begins and only if they fail as a team in 2014/15 season.

I'm hoping he and Gio play more of an extra fwd roll. Fill in when inevitable injury occurs, but not a regular in the lineup. Though I expect Gio will be a regular, not so sure about Bernier.
