Was too busy yesterday to post this, but in addition to running into Hughes and Daneyko we ended up in a conversation at a bar before the game with an older couple that happened to be the billet hosts for Adam Boqvist and, for all of 10 days, Bratt. They were in town hosted by Adam and were going out to dinner with both Boqvists and Bratt after the game.

Regarding hosting Bratt, they said he had showed up intending on playing that year for the Knights but went to the Devils camp for a few days, and then maybe a few more days, and then oh maybe another week, and then he made the team and still had all his stuff in their house lol

The more I watch our defense, I get giddy for Hughes. I think by and large our defenders are pretty good transition players, but we don’t have any creators from the backend. Hamilton is a great shooter, but he’s not going to just conjure something out of nothing very often. Watching Hughes make guys look silly at the blue line is going to be awesome.

Not to state the obvious, but playing the Ohio States and Wisconsins of the world or Latvia and Germany in international tournaments is far different than facing the Bruins and Hurricanes.

Hughes' positional play is quite a ways from being NHL-ready; regardless of the name on the back of his jersey.

Absolutely. It's crucial we keep positional stalwart Brendan Smith in the lineup, because he is never out of position and does not get burned on a regular basis.
