My tepid support for resigning a guy like Noesen is that you pencil him in as a 13th fwd. It's hard to find good players willing to sit and wait. And you don't want your young guys in that spot. Would Noesen be willing to sign on as a likely extra fwd? Well I don't think he is going to find much interest elsewhere so maybe.

Now Q, as Bleed pointed out, is out of waiver eligibility, so maybe he is a guy you keep as a 13th? I'd be fine with it.

So did Bastian's 2 goal game yesterday sway anyone to think maybe he starts the year in NJ next season?

Too bad he missed as many games as he did, cause I would have liked more of a look then just the 7 games he played, but I think I may have seen enough to say he might be ready.

Funny that this guy was completely off the prospect radar to start the year.

I think you answered your own question above.

I'd prefer Bastian to start the year getting reps with big minutes in Binghamton. He has been good but he has plenty to work on. Same goes for McLeod.

I'd use Agostino to fill that role. I'm also not against signing a guy like Maroon or Boyle, either.

Bastian playing in NJ would be contingent on him getting a regular 5v5 shift and some net front PP time.

I think you'd have to be confident he can succeed in that PP role but that looks like that could be his bread and butter.

If Bastian in NJ means he is going to be playing very limited minutes, or even a part time healthy scratch then obviously I'd rather he be in Bingo.

I actually had Bastian penciled in on our 4th line next year for a while. Of course, if he doesn't play I'd much rather him in Bing.

For the longest time I thought Bastain was a product of Mcleod. Now, he has impressed me the most out of the forward call ups. That 2016 draft is pure insanity and this scouting team deserves some accolades/steak dinners. I can understand some of the disappointment with Mcleod, but every pick has played in the AHL/NHL or will most likely be playing next year. (To include Rykov) The biggest question mark is Maltsev.

This staff won’t get the credit but 2015 draft can also be deemed a success after this season. Zacha is probably one of the worst picks in his range but his potential is still there and he is playing in the NHL. Now you can add Blackwood and Seney as solid prospects. 3 out of 5 is not that bad.

Bastian is far too green for me to have on the 4th line next year - unless he shines in camp

Showed some promise for sure and I like his style - but he seems very raw still

I liked Bastian’s fight against Lemieux in the Rangers game. He just took the little guy by the collar and held him at arms length and used his reach to keep the small but scrappy brawler away. Turned his face away from the shorter guys punches and rode it out. Occasionally throwing a long jab of his own. And his expression showed you exactly what he thought of Lemieux fils. He did much better than Wood who got stitches out of his encounter.

Not really hockey related but I noticed. And remember. It gave me a good idea about the kid.

Forgot Speers played a few games to start 2016. Lot of us had high hopes for the kid
I think most of us, myself included, had no idea what the coaching staff saw in him to keep him up here, and frankly, I still don't.

Then again, I had no idea what the coaching staff saw in Coleman either, and that turned out rather well :)

That season he started with the NHL club, Speers was far away the most mature player out of the kids at camp. Made the most patient plays. But he never had any explosive attributes, was just the sort of decisions he made with and without the puck. Then he didn't progress much and had a spell of injuries and bad luck. If you'll recall this year's camp, he was pretty good again but nothing like what Smith showed. You never know, he might still be something, but it's unlikely given the amount of competition in the mix.

So Zajac is 6th in Devils games played, he should jump to 4th next season as long as he plays over 34 games. He also only needs 14 points to have the 3rd highest total in Devils history.

Bastian fought DeAngelo. And I thought he showed that he is a tough guy willing to fight and take a punch, but DeAngelo, the smaller guy, clearly won that fight.

Lemieux fought Wood, which was pretty one sided, but Wood stepped on a stick early in the scrap and Lemieux took advantage.

In both cases I think the Ranger player took an early advantage and ran with it.

Yeah I can't believe they never tried to sign anyone especially since they did away with the players having their own free will if they're UFA.

i’m pretty sure allowing the players to have free will is going to be a point of contention for the owners during the next lockout

This season Zajac scored the most goals he has since the 2009-10 season.

This season was his 4th highest point total in the NHL...I can't help but snicker over the pages of discussion that I have read here regarding Zajac's Decline....4 and 5 years ago :biglaugh:

It is weird that people thought that Zajac was declining when he scored 36 goals over 2 1/2 seasons. What dupes. Regardless, Zajac is still declining - he had a lucky shooting year, the Devils play a more offensive style, and goal scoring is up around the NHL. Zajac's days as a play driver appear to be over. Even with his uptick in scoring this season, the Devils should be looking to reduce his ice time substantially. He's a fine player at 15 minutes a game, not so much at 19 minutes a game.
